Things we dont have in Ukraine

I would like to change our thoughts about things we dont have in Ukraine and would like to have.
But it should be something feasible and important. For example, I would like to have an expat barbeque every Sunday. But not - I miss Dunkin' Donuts.
The purpose of this post is to try to find out how to make an expat life here easier, more comfortable and more like at home.

Barbecue would be fun. Believe it or not, I actually miss airplanes flying in the sky.

How much I understand you! I forgot already how much I missed wild birds flying in formation over my house. I've never seen this last time over 10 years ago I guess.
It will be hard to have airplanes fly above you but a barbecue is doable. Especially when it gets warmer. Why not to agree to meet somewhere for a couple of days once a year. There are so many nice places in Ukraine. I cannot wait to visit the Ukrainian version of the Grand Canyon this spring (although I assume it is not that grand but it should be nice anyway).

I have a private pilot license, so I pay attention to aviation issues. Trying to get my license transfered for use in ukraine but I see now that general aviation is not something most Ukrainians can afford or care about. Yes, a big barbecue on the black sea this summer would cool. Or maybe a camping trip to the carpathians in the summer. My wife loves the carpathians. I understand that it's the only time ukrainians can see real outdoors nature. I tell her that in America, 60 percent of the country is mountains and forests. She has no idea.

Hey guy's, I'm in ! Sounds great and lots of fun.. About birds : 45 days ago or so the ducks were migrating exactly over my house ! Made me feel more at home too.. My hair was standing up on my back ! My employee, Ukrainian Georgeee got excited too, screaming in his broken English " meat, meat " look meat go !! Oden meat ya hochiss, meat meat, look Ken look !! Hahahaha.. And boyz, there's pheasant in front of my house in the field ! Damm, I have a semi auto bb pistol but I only use it for cats.. That Georgee took it one day and ran outta the yard and started chasing cats and birds, shooting everything, hahaha.. Plus them silly hawks fly over in the morning (about 1500) screaming and hawking, then at night they return.. Birds are cool, been hunting them all my life..But a bbq,, ok, i'll do the first one ! I am on the Black Sea in Odessa (about 500 yds from the seashore) and would love to have as many as possible this summer plus your wifes, of course.. My wife and I have done many and we enjoy feeding our friends and family immensely. Lets book !! Also, I bought the house next door and Georgee and I should be done remodeling it by May. We could use that for sleeping arrangements if it isn't rented. It will sleep 8. 3bdr, living room sofa bed.. I can block out the dates if we figure something out, ok ?? Usually we do about 15-25 people but the more the better ! I built this house for exactly this so I would feel at home and so also I did include everything we like..You know, the big bbq, Sauna, Jacuzzi and bla bla bla..Seating in and out for about 30 I guess so were good ! It's just a matter of the dates if you guys agree..One guy for sure I would like to make at home is Russo !! He's leaving in May but when in May I don't know, and his return in Sept, but I don't know either so Russo, fill us in ! I'm taking you drinkin and huntin on the beach !!! hahahaha.. Im not in Odessa ALL summer this year but most of it.. September is better than May usually.. So let me know guys, sounds fun , Thanks, Ken

That is funny..."Meat...meat!" I have to laugh when Ukrainians call everything meat. We tend to differentiate it - beef, pork, chicken...it seems for them it's all "meat".

Kkmail, your offer is very generous. If you notify us when you finilize your remodeling works in the house we would be more than glad to bring a party to Odesa.

Smmoravec, there are many special terms describing a type of meat in the Ukrainian language. For example pork - ???????, beef - ???????? or ????????, etc.

Is a BBQ only one thing you miss guys?

I love barbecue and there is a place here in nikolaev called, "dixxie barbecue" I thought it was real barbecue, it has a Texas and Alabama flag outside. But my wife says it's not real, that it's actually a strip club.
Sounds good to me. lol.

See ya in Nickolaev !! lol...

So Mr Penwriter I will be returning to Odesa 2/06 and my Georgee is working as we converse..It will be done by May. But we can fill in the details as we roll along here. DONT FORGET.. I will heat the pool ! Also, there are many cool places to stay nearby if one doesn't want to take residency in my other house. One I recommend is Chebanka..Private little cottages, pool, sauna, restaurant, great grounds, about 100 acres..Walking distance to the beach.. But anyway, I have sleeping for 8 available. Plus my wife's Mom is the coolest Mother in Law I could ask for and she love's to cook !! And she makes me homemade Jam's and Jelly's ! I myself retired from wholesale foodservice many moons ago and am ready ! Odesa is a great town to explore, make a weekend out of it is my suggestion !
