Nate is in a good position, he can shorten his hours if he moves to Ukraine and still practice being a mechanic,"good for him!" There is no future here for us. I've been getting e-mails about setting up "offshore accts" and STILL have not taken action. We all know some Euro banks will not take u.s. clients due to the threats by the u.s.. As I have posted "Rafeissen from Austria" is one bank, but I read if one opens an acct in Gribralter one can by- pass this. The wife gets her kicks speaking "I don't have money like Trump." What if they close the banks for 5 days here like in Cyprus, they can do what they want.I asked @ my bank yesterday, and "they do NOT have cash to cover deposits," They did it in 1929, so it can happen. I read the dollar has lost 99% of what it was in 1913, there is nothing to support any value. That is why people hawk gold or silver. I should at least move 100k. I get no return on this here anyhow. The article stated "no country " in the last 2K yrs has survived what we are in now. just a thought,"get your money OUT of dollar, but DO NOT put into Euro. Recommended currencies are Norway, Swiss, and Hong Kong. as the safest. I saw Norway, Sweden, and Denmark are NOT in the Euro or Nato either, smart idea. have a good day guys.

We are American professors based in the Middle East. Today someone told us that PrivatBank is giving 10% on fixed deposits and recommended that we invest some money there. From your post, it doesn't look promising.

Are the banks insured - I mean, do they guarantee that deposits are safe at least up to a certain amount? Any information about banks would be appreciated.

American Prof.: I am near Chicago and do not know, but KK BILL lives in Kherson, if I am correct, and travels around. He has a better life than us in the u.s. from what he posts. HE has what seems to be a type of "debit card" issued @ the American Embassy possibly backed by a German bank. Private Bank is Ukraine Oligarch controlled, which means it can be closed without much problem. He has stated he DOES have some money there if I remember due to the higher rates. He will answer your post when he sees it. A few of the posters here are from Texas, as they have found a better place in Ukraine financially. So many millions of us here are "fed up" with the U.S. as we all know. Good luck to you !

Hi there. I may be able to shed some light on the subject for you. I just looked at my banks rates.. In Ukrainian currency 12 month term deposits pay 21.5 percent..USD accounts 5 percent..There are some things to overcome when depositing in Ukraine however and it is not something you can do unless you are present. The banks have some rules and reg's they must adhere to and they do.. All requirements are on their websites in English. Doesn't matter who you "know " .. Privat Bank.. One man owns Privat and the government has given the institution " bailout money " as recent as last year..Might want to look into that one a little further..
Good luck !!

Thanks for the info! I will certainly look into the banking situation a lot more before we do anything.
