Anybody having difficulty's besides me finding good food around Ukraine ? Even the pork isn't what it should be and the beef speaks for itself, YUCK ! Need to boil all the flavor out of it before you can chew it ! And I bbq chicken various ways about 4 nights a week and I'm running out of idea's ! I'm talking like gravy mixes maybe, montreal stk seasoning maybe,, canned pears/peaches/of course PB AND J !! Just in general ok ? Thinking about doing an import store/website.. There is a guy in Odesa that sells some things from the states but he doesn't really understand how to run a business/ keep stock, or what to keep on hand, etc..And priced outta this world. Anyway, I looked into it and can get things here for about $1000 dollars per 1/2 container in about 30 days. So what I'm saying is that the interest needs to be pretty strong for me to move forward. Let me know if you would guys.. Not really talking about restaurants having decent food... Mostly staple's..Cake mixes, bisquick could be an item, pan syrup, choc chips, muffin mix, pan mix and on and on.. And thanks !! I'm starving over here !!

KK, if I am not mistaken their are a lot of foods that cannot be shipped to the EU and Russia and other countries. Due to steroids in beef & pork and GMO in items like Mac & Cheese. But, maybe it would be different with Ukraine since Kiev is in bed with Washington so much. You might want to research this a little bit on what can be shipped to Ukraine. As you most likely already know from living in Ukraine. Europe frowns on Steroids in Beef and pork, and GMO products. Kraft (Mac and Cheese) lost a big court case with the EU over GMO wheat. Kraft had to label their boxes differently in order to sell in Europe.

KK, Monsanto is the company I was trying to think of that is the big reason American food can be shipped over seas. Monsanto is a Agrochemical, Agriculture company out of Missouri. They own or touch about 75% of the food consumed in USA. They are hated all over the world for their GMO food products.they get protested in every part of the world on a regular basis. Monsanto makes it very hard on the Organic food growers also, their political BS is what causes Organic foods to be at a higher cost !!

Ya thanks Mr NA67 !

Ya I was aware of not being able to ship meats.. I have an import distributor for meats already.. I believe his stuff comes from Poland where they spend a little money feeding the animals and hence the flavor and toughness is better. Ukrainians just throw em out in the field and butcher em as fast as they can ! $$$$$$.. So Monsanto and Kraft, well I retired from Kraft so I'm pretty much up on all the in's and outs of the food biz except I'm starving over here ! hahahaqha.. Anyway, I don't see much interest being posted here so far but i'll give it a few more days and go from there.. Really appreciate your feedback Mr. Na... Hey and did you call the car rental guy ? ...

I say go for it! I don't eat beef or pork very often but when I do it would be nice to have a source for higher quality cuts. If there is no real competition and you know where to get the items wholesale, why not. It could turn a good profit for you.

I don't think I will need the rental car guy for a long while. My wife don't seem to want to travel to Ukraine for a few years now!! We had a bad situation in Kiev Airport when we traveled last December. A man in a Ukraine Military Uniform gave my wife Big Attitude when she asked him for directions. Lena spoke Russian to him, and he got real crappy with her over not speaking Ukraine to him. My wife is not happy with all that has gone on in Ukraine the last three years. We have family and friends in Louhanks area, as you can assume, she feels like a minority/disliked in her own country today. YES, my wife is ethnic Russian. 3 of her 4 Grandparents were from St. Petersburg. So, I think we will travel to the Caribbean next trip. But, I hope to get to travel back to Ukraine some day )))

KK, speaking of Monsanto and Syngenta GMO crops, are the crops grown in Ukraine non-GMO? I'm not a fanatic about it but since I eat a lot of salads and raw veggies and fruits I really prefer organically grown food. Is there a labeling law in UA?

Nate, sorry to hear about the crappy experience @ the airport in Dec., WHY these people are SO TOUCHY is something I can't understand. Years ago I flew into Montreal, then rented a car to Quebec City. When I coulnd't speak back in French , the big smile went away. Another ex., when Slovakia broke from Czech, everyone was o.k.. The people should speak two languages in Ukraine.
"NO ONE" needs what Albina calls a "funny country language" Ukraine, or for that matter Latvian, Lith, or Bulgarian. English ,German or Russian would be the smart thing. Swedes start English in 5th grade if I am correct. Crimea voted to join Russia. Millions of people HERE want to partition the u.s., red states and blue states, THIS would not be permitted even tho people want this: the maj. of states are "red."

Maybe labeling laws concerning meats my friend but the veggies no.... I sure have tried some strange tasting chicken from one company. And so the stands everywhere that NA67 is talking about consist of what grandma has grown in the backyard so they cant really track that right....Anyway I'm not trying to make money, I'm trying to eat good but there doesn't seem to be enough interest to help with the shipping costs...Anyway, thanks for the info guys...And sorry to hear about the attitude issue NA..

The majority of the fruits and vegetables are grown locally. They are not pretty like in the U.S....but rest assured, they are organic.

I have traveled to numerous European and Middle Eastern countries. Everyone seems to understand that the language of travel is English. EXCEPT France. Why do they insist that everyone understands their language? I always get that initial "Oh, sorry, you do not speak French?" Not sh#t dumbass....

Answer to the French : Some of them have principals!
At the olympics, do they sound off like a bunch of "drunken SLOBS like the Americans?" I know the Brits are famous for this also, but America is famous for being SLOBS. When I was in Ottawa long ago my daughter was in a baby carriage, and a FAT SLOB wearing shorts, with a Boston cap crowded into the lift. My wife still remembers this well. The French seem to have higher principals, in the U.S. it is "hurray for me and screw you!" WE all know this! That's what one gets with diversity, kill some guy because he is wearing a Dodgers cap @ the S.F. game.

I would definitely be up for buying some quality meats kk. I haven't been to many upscale restaurants in ukraine. Nikolaev doesn't have any that I know of. My wife and I went to the fabrika in kherson on woman's day and ate at a so called steakhouse/go kart track. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the meat or the preparation. They don't understand rare or medium well. Also, the taste of the meat here, beef, pork etc, tastes gamie to me. Looking for some quality filet and porter houses that I can cook on the grill. Smmoravec brought me 3 big jars of peanut butter. My step son never had this before. Now he is a big fan as well as my wife. They eat it straight from the jar with a spoon. It's very cute. Down to 1 jar now.

My wife and step son eat this peanut butter on everything. She thinks it needs to be kept in the refrigerator. She doesn't believe me when I tell her it doesn't matter. Yes, 90 degree days would be great. Here in nikolaev it has only been in the low 60's. My first year here, not used to temps this low this time of year. Used to Oklahoma and Texas temps.

Yes it is. I don't know about other ukrainian women, but mine has some weird superstitions. For instance, she will.not.drink anything cold when it is cold outside as she thinks it will make her sick. Once you have left the house and then come back, you cannot sit on the furniture until you change into fresh clothes. Once a wash cloth touches the floor, no matter how many times you wash it in the washer it can never be used for cleaning the counters, tables or dishes. It is now dedicated to only cleaning the floor.
Any of your on this forum that have ukrainian woman notice any of these idiosyncrasies or is it just mine that is crazy? Kidding

OMG. That's so funny. I have said all the same to my wife and her mother. I said, I guess 360 million Americans are all wrong and we're gonna die. But I've learned that even if they know it's wrong, that soviet pride will not let them admit it. My wife will fight to the death before she admits defeat.

When we come for the bbq, I need your wife to talk to my wife and tell her I am normal, that this is the way us americans are. My wife thinks I am stupid and that my parents raised me wrong. She cannot believe we are like this in america

Back to the topic on this paticular post for a sec guys.. So I've decided to wait until I lose some weight before I go further into obesity and jump into a food business. For you guys out there that want good beef, George and I do get fairly good TBones from Auchan and can pre-order..Just let me know and we can make arrangements on shipping via Nova Post or whatever ok....We order Tuesdays and they deliver Fridays. And once in awhile they have a whole fillet !! All of it around 4.50 per pound...But nothing outstanding like we are used too ! Not yet at least until I start raising frkkn cow's !!
