living costs

Nate: There are 2 sites I have seen that give living costs for Kiev as of March. One is Numbeo and the other I saw last night is Expatistan. I saw a 3 bdrm flat 900 sq ft. in the best part of Kiev about $700/mo. in the burbs, maybe $450-500. rough prices. bottle of beer 50 cents, metro $12/mo., south Ukraine is cheaper we know. I was thinking "outside the box," "If you were interested in Georgia or Ala. you could get a house to "feel good about" brick with crown molding and nice floors. I look @ houses on Zillow in the 250-300k area. I can't get the same near Portland where the wife wants to go for the climate. It seems all of Portland is tired and worn out looking. If you wrote them a check for 200 or 250k after you sell in Utah you won't have such a wt. on you to carry on $3500/mo. 8 yrs out. People have the "bad habit in the U.S." of trying to be something one isn't, live high like Kardashians, or baseball players. I'm told plenty of times"a million dollars is nothing," and that is right, how many people even have THAT amt.?
That is why Albina says she lived better in the U.S.S.R., About the only thing she has here that she did not have there, is a t.v....I was there so I saw with my own eyes 20 yrs ago. The metro in Moscow puts the Chicago subway to shame plenty, and I don't think they have so many 3rd world types there.

To be honest with you Mike, as every day goes by.....there is no where in the USA I desire to live. I would rather live in a little village in BFE Ukraine, with no gas nor electric nor internet than live here much longer. And if Hillary gets to be President, I will expedite my move as quick as possible !!!!! Siberia is looking better by the day ))))

re clinton winning......a little bit of statistically peculiar information for you. Whenever the US sharemarket crashes or drops at least 10 to 25% between June and October of an election year there has been a change of government....if there is no "crash" of well over 10% then the incumbents hold on to power.

You're 100% right NATE, I am with you!
As I have posted, "I can follow the Packers, Bears, and Cubs online from anywhere. I went to 2 stores in our area yesterday to get different items. At the Greek store there was a Lithuanian woman maybe 60, she was looking at the Lith items so I spoke to her. She said "there are no younger people in LIthuania any more." "This sounds like Ukraine, I said, only babushka and the cow left." The fools want to spend money on military (good work keeping Boeing in business). The Lith and Polish are still living in 1939! Albina says "these people need WORK, JOBS." You know that as well as I ! If the bandera was working for an honest wage, they would not be marching around drunk with flags. I take it your post BFE is for bum f**k Egypt. I stopped telling the Greeks ,"the place to go is Greece, buy a sailboat, with the white sand and your small dacha get your vino, what more does one need! If THEY are NOT smart enough to know this, who am I to tell them, they are over 50, they have the money!
I went to the Lith. store to get the Russian beer Albina wants Zhigolovskaya, Baltica and the Lithuanian beers are trash, 9% alcohol which kills the taste of the drink. If you have Baltica out in Utah, you can see the label. The Zhuli beer is 5%. Albina asked me "WHAT ABOUT school for your daughter if you and Lena move to Odessa?" Would you do homeschool online? Kiev has British Scool, but they want good money, and she could take up Euro language. I would have moved to Kiev, and sent our daughter to Brit School, to take up Russian and French,or German but things did not work out. They don't push American history, "who needs revolutionary war nowadays, they need APP and software studies." Our daughter likes horseback riding, but has not been out in a while. We have a few stables by the woods here, and is getting independent now so she does not want to go out on the trail with an old guy. I guess being out west your daughter rides. They need activities, I would have liked for her to take tennis, or fencing, but it is quite a ride to a fencing school here.
We are not socialites.

Man there are a lot of people loosing jobs over here right now. Oil patch has lost many jobs. Many towns in North and South Dakota hurting, Texas and Oklahoma also. ....Just read this today that CAT/Catapillar is shutting down 5 factories and laying off 10,000 workers between now and 2018. Damn, that's a lot. Economy is for sure slowing down. Stock Market will most likely dump with Dow Jones and S&P companies not making profits!

well taken: another fact I read last month , "It is VERY HARD for a person to get elected if the current president has been in office for 2 terms. " O'Bama is one of the worst pres. in our lifetimes, thanks to Rep. blocking him. OBama has been in 2 terms strike 1, 2nd strike is Clinton's many mistakes. The story TODAY HERE is, the FBI investigation MAY be held so long as to be revealed to the public AFTER the election! WE will see WHEN they convict her! This judge Napolitano on Fox said "she is guilty w/o question." Whatever she did I do not know. We have all had enough of the Clintons. At least 50% of the senators should be kicked out for bribery and corruption.
HOW are things going over there re: living conditions, NOT bringing peanut butter to Odessa or some woman ? My wife called to someone near Kiev, and they said "times are rough!" If they make $400/mo.,"HOW can they get by?" good to get your feedback!

I saw your post about CAT. and we know what industries they cater to and that will hit Illinois hard. I posted on Facebook for "you to see only", a story I saw online tonight re: living in Kiev. It said (ave wages around $140) sit with your stand and sell peroshki or cigarettes. That $140 must be per week, anyhow, the winter gas bills for the ave house like mine will be around $300 in the winter like we read, for a 1200 sq ft house. What will it be in the summer, $50? Mine is about $108 every month. Did you get the AK, those rabbits don't stand a fair chance? It must have set you back $600.

this might sound counter intuitive but inflation, job numbers, corporate earnings and growth all tapering off are actually buoying the market. As long as those factors don't fall off a cliff(and they wont in my opinion ) the FED cannot raise rates,With ridiculously low int' rates idle money will go into the markets. I'm torn cos I want markets to stay up but I also want a Trump governmt.......One black swan on the horizon is that vote the Brits are having on June 23rd.If they vote to leave EU watch the markets plummet

Your words are in many e-mails I see today from financial newsletters: neg interest rates, no increase by the FED, flat or earnings shortfalls. I follow GILD and they took a 9% haircut as HIV sales and a jumbled mix of numbers ae falling. TSLA took a good haircut yesterday which is GOOD for me as I am shorting TSLA until expiration May 16. This may be the drop mentioned yesterday preceding the election. I have not bought any gold or silver, but watched the "America 2020 video last night AGAIN, with that man Ron Paul. He states confidence in the dollar WILL stop with the debt so high. He mentioned FDR gave people 30 days to turn in their gold in the 40's. After that, the dollar lost 40 % in value, then Nixon removed gold backing, so we have more worthless paper printed. I'm not moving to Argentina or Panama, but it is worth reading. I got the book out to read it again. I'm not any PHD in econimics or even high school level, just getting by. Take care out there, I read the bandera is in Odessa!

Let's all not forget China has been given reserve currency status.....this takes effect Oct/2016. This means the USA is not as big of a financial bully on the block any more. Lets not forget Russia and many other countries want to stop buying oil based on the Petro Dollar any more. Oh yes, ....changes are coming in America. And none for the better !!!

Hi Mike Trya.

Just to confirm your information as to the monthly UA earnings is actually a little less than $250 MONTH. Yes a Month. My wife and I live in a fair sized town namely Ternopil here in the West of the country.
Our food bill per week is just £25 #$35 -$36 and we eat good. My wife says this is extravagant and we could shop for less. You have to remember this very much a third world economy and most things are relatively cheap, but on the increase all the time. Gas is now sky high, so what to do. Extra layer of clothing and turn down the heating, and I just spent eight years in Turkey with temps regularly up to 40.
So you can imagine I feel the cold.
Rent we pay $145 for, what is by Ukraine standards a very large G.floor, fully furnished flat in the better part of town.
Even with our extravagant life style we are way below $300. You can include in those figures a new PC. hard drive with new windows set up, and last month 400 UAH for wife's dentistry bill. (4 fillings + clean and polish) and ? am a regular attendee at hospital for monitoring my heart cond. Doctors consultancy fee, just $10 in a private hospital.
Hope that clarifies a few points for you.

Thanks for the info Perry. I get too concerned with things that are out of my control here. Good for you that you are managing o.k. in Ternopil. I get by here on my $2500/mo. and I will pull some money out of my 401 to cover $1500 the mob wants as my broker sent a notice to the gov. last year. If only they would keep notifying the tax people here it would be a better world. I would rather give the money to you or anyone except the gov here. I was @ the coffee house yesterday, and there was a man and his son. I was told they slept next to the bridge last night, it has been around 48 near Chicago lately @ night. The son had teeth knocked out and he got hit by a car 2 months ago and I saw him still limping. The father said (the father is a vet) and gets the shaft from the V.A.. There are so many people HERE hurting and the gov threatens the world out there! How can one feeel good about the u.s.? (my personal world).Anyhow, take care of your lady there, I have rough times here as my wife sees the bad things on t.v. here. Better to live like the Amish maybe, "no cable." My wife put on some movie and a black guy was screaming "f you" to some chinese fella, and the chinese fella replied
"f you back!" I'm paying for this!
