Perhaps ANY of you maybe KK can shed some light on the gas bills. Yesterday I read last yrs winter gas bill was about $184 for the average Ukraine house. As of May 1st in 2 days, if what I read is correct, the gas bill for winter months wil go to around $300-$320 for 1200 sq. ft.. house. I forgot the ex. but they used 7100 hryvna /mo. , so one is up around $300. Next it said the elec is going up.

According to Bloomburg Financial News......Since taking IMF & EU money. Ukraine will be forced to raise gas bills 280%. This is not Kiev decision, this is the IMF and EU mandating such action. Austerity!! maybe not a good thing !!

They won't be able to collect on the gas bills or tax increases. One can't shut off the gas to 40 million people, and if many make $400/mo. how can they pay this, German prices on Ukraine wages

I'll throw in my gas bill cost for ya Mike and you can tell me how much it is.. I just send em 2000 uah per month and they don't bitch !! Keep in mind, heated floors, Jacuzzi and pool probably make it a little higher than most...Electric by the way, same..With summer a short time away, it will go down probably 40 percent for the next 4 months..

My wife has been bitchen about this since yesterday. She is worried about all the bobushkas out there on a pension that barely allows then to buy bread, and now a gas bill increase of 80%. When I build or.buy my home here I will try to go all electric. I told her in america many in the country have a fireplace, wood burning stove etc. But like she said where do you find wood in ukraine unless you live in the carpathians. I told her that the IMF and EU demand this increase. She understands. But she also made a good point that in america if people cannot afford to live they get government assistance. She says ukraine could do this too if the oligarch wasn't hoarding all the money given by the eu and imf. What are you guys thoughts?

All electric is great...until the power goes out. I remember last year my friend in Vilkovo said there had rolling power blackouts there and in Odessa. I would definitely get a decent power generator for backup.

Due to Ukraine taking so much IMF and EU money they are forced to play by EU rules. This means taxes, taxes, taxes, every thing will go up like electrical and gas every year maybe twice a year. Until they hit a point they like of receiving revenue. I would for sure have a wood stove as a back up plan. And I will add a Garden as a bonus also !! My mother in law lives about 30 minutes outside Odessa, and can buy wood and coal all day long. Here in the states gas is much cheaper heating than electrical. The people that live off Hryvnia will hurt, most Americans that live there could care less due to their American money buying power. Yes the old living on $1000 Hryvnia each month will hurt like HELL !! Always have a back up plan !!

We lived in central Utah for about five years out in the country. We had a wood burning stove that we used to heat our single wide trailer (yes, I used to be poor!). But it was great, throwing a chunk of coal in there before going to bed and having it heat the place all night. My boys grew up learning how to RESPONSIBLY start fires. But is was cheap, I can't imagine it would be different in Ukraine.
But yeah, the transition for Ukraine from funding it's infrastructure ( or lack thereof) from bribes to taxes will be long and difficult in my opinion. The bribery mindset is part of the culture, and it will take time to change.

My big worry is that the revenue that starts to flow from these taxes will just end up in the same pockets that all the money does now.

thanks KK I was just curios. A story online Yahoo today here posts the children in Washington directing NATO want to send 4000 fools to sit in army uniforms in Poland and Latvia. The leaders there are still living in 1939 awaiting an invasion. Childish alright! It will help the taverns, that is all. Have a good day there, I could use 2 weeks in Charleston or Savannah, too chilly here.

Millions of people in the U.S. are PISSED at this country, I guess you haven't seen the polls voting for Trump! You post irrationally. The U.S. is 19 trillion is debt, and with private ensions ( 64 tril I read). The town I live in only contributes 50% to the employee pensions per our tax bills. I'm re-reading the book by Ron Paul, "America 2020 about "martial law to confiscate pensions when the gov is desparate here." He claims FDR forced people to turn in their gold in 1933 and after that , the dollar was devalued 40%. I was not around in 1933, but I HAVE read inflation was big after the war. History has shown the best days here were from about 195o until Vietnam. The 3 things killing the U.S. are the military, s.s. , and medicare., we all know this. I'm just stating the facts as Joe Friday would say! The economy here is slowing per "earnings misses lately", and with news of neg. interest rates, that do not help the pump manipulation. Even Nate who does mech work for the DOD is worried about his gov. pension! An offshore newsletter I've read recommends Norway and Singapore as A rated, Swiss wants big bucks and many in Europe, U.S. ,Brit, and E.U. get no higher than C. "will not "take new U.S. accts. I don't know, I just read. The most I would "think" about moving is perhaps 100k. FCX looks good buying leaps for Jan. 2018. take care.

Boy's I know Mike's words seem harsh and drastic at times....maybe over the top at times...but sadly he speaks the dirty truth most of the time about living in the USA today. So much has changed over the last 8 years, none for the better I assure you all. Government agencies hacking your email, lisening in on your phone and Skype conversations. No privacy what so ever. Handing out Social Security benefits to Millions that never paid $1.00 into SS. Everyone here expects Social Security to go broke soon. Even U S Government web sites discussing SS benefits might not be paid soon. Military benefits might not be paid soon. As far as USA loosing their ass- that happened a long time ago. Hell Russia, China, Saudi, are all dumping U S T-bills. No one wants our debt. Many of my friends and co workers are looking to retire abroad, actively persueing moving. Hedge funds and pension funds going belly up, on and on. The time for saying nice things about this place has come and gone....reality is hitting peoples wallets and bank accounts. I hope every day the financial web pages (bloomburg, yahoo financial, wall street journal) are wrong about our situation here. But, can all of them be wrong, I just hope its blown out of proportion a bit. When I went home to Kentucky when my father passed away in March, the place looked like a ghost town....steel mill shut down, rail road shut down, coal mines shut down, oil refinery barley staying alive. Only good business in E.Kentucky is drug business. May god show mercy on the old folks here, they will need it. Just try to understand our situation here ....just as we need to try and understand your situation there....with some respect to others. Have a good day all !!!

Just have to step in and correct some wrong info about Social Security and Medicare "bankrupting" america. Take a look at your pay stub. What do you see? That's right. You pay for social security and medicare out of each and every paycheck. And your employer pays in an equal amount as well.
So this BS that SS and medicare are "entitlements" is nothing but that... BS. You PAID for both all of your working life. The only reason the SS trust fund isn't flush with cash is that, starting with that babbling buffoon Ronald Reagan each President has raided the SS trust fund to artificially reduce the budget shortfalls caused by their idiotic and nonsensical economic policies. "It's morning in America" and that idiot doubled the national debt even after stealing trillions from the Social Security Trust Fund.
"So now you know the rest of the story. Good day."

You won't be losing your genuine entitlements......social security will not be cancelled.....USA would not be able to live that down,,,how could they show their representative faces at international gatherings...how could they ever take the moral high ground on any international issue again?they couldnt so it wont happen. Social security outlay is a drop in the bucket.....when US dollar keeps falling US earnings will rise and US has already rigged every market in their favor....USA is stinking rich!!!!

Not to split hairs but as I posted above, Social Security and Medicare are ***NOT*** entitlements. Americans have NO entitlements, none at all.

Lot of frustration has been building in the u.s. for the last 8 years and there are people like Mike T. who are stuck and venting with no angles to leave. Your right K Bill, but he is stuck and if he could do something about it he probably would.. Luckily for us, or good planning, we were able to move on.. And it isn't ironic how Trump pounded the G.O.P. ! That in itself tells you how many millions of americans are feeling the same about the place. 8 years of the current admin has really taken it's toll on the folks my friend..And if that spewing and spoutin Clinton wins it's going to get even worse.. A native Dutchman took me there once, and my sister also lived there, and the tax rate is 50 percent and that is exactly where the u.s. is going..The Dutchman spelled it out for me 15 years ago !! So, a couple good things about the u.s. ok...It's the easiest country in the world to make money in...It's the most diverse, the most beautiful and probably the most fun.. Best doctors, best sporting events, best music and quite a few other things, but notice I didn't mention quality of life !! But anyway as a whole, I feel for guys like Mike...

I paid in from when I was 16 until 54. The boss and I paid into s.s.. I never even had my teeth worked on when Reagan was pres, Blue Cross got so much. I read a piece that sounded like a Capone comparison to the gov. and "it is TRUE!" You take "your money, chances, work long hrs, hire workers and sweat. I will take "my cut, from everything you make." When you sell your business,"I get my cut!" When you die and want to leave your estate to your heirs,"I get my cut!" Doesn't this sound like Al Capone, or the mob?, "It is !" So the senators can live as rich as Capone.

LuvSlav, just so you 'know the rest of the story', I read that the SCOTUS fools declared that SoSec is only welfare. Law does not depend on facts, or right/wrong, only what the idiots in black say.
