Greetings: We are considering teaching positions in Kiev (private international school in the green zone). Can anyone give feedback on: 1. Banking - you get paid then how do you get that money from Ukraine to the US? 2. Taxes - what is the income tax rate in Ukraine? 3. What is the going rate for employing an English speaking tutor or domestic (basically this person would be a babysitter but must be dependable, etc.? 4, Any recommendations on areas that have affordable housing and public transport to and from the "green zone" ? Thank you.

Good post STAR: I have not seen a good reply here as to "how to get one's money OUT of Ukraine." I have an interest near Kiev, and do NOT want to walk out thru the airport with a fat money belt when the time comes. I will contact American Express to see if I can get some answers, as you know, banks do NOT want to do business in Ukraine, and If I had a Russian acct., I could move the money out o.k.. via CITI or Sberbank. Could you please tell me about the"GREEN ZONE?" I only knew there was are where the army sits in arab countries. I have not read of American troops hiding in a green zone in Ukraine. I remember a little of Lavra, St. Sophia, the area where the statue of Tarus Bulba ? with a horse and sword is, Krechatsik and Yalta long ago. thanks

1. Banking: KKMAIL is the resident banking expert. Ask him. But Western Union works both ways. You can send money to the US. 2. Taxes: You think anyone here actually pays income tax? LMAO!! 3. In Odessa I pay a tutor $7/hour. Domestics get what you can get them to accept. You will be surprised at how little someone will accept. The point is..."it's negotiable". I pay a woman 250 grivna (about 10 bucks) every two weeks to clean my apartment. I could get it done for a lot less, but I like this lady. 4. What the hell is the 'Green Zone'? What do you consider 'affordable'? Public transportation is dirt cheap and will get you anywhere in the city. Go to www.stay.ua and click on Kiev. That shows you some examples of what Ukrainians pay for short-term stays in Kiev. The rates are 'per day' in grivna. In Kiev they range from a $2.50/night 'roach motel' to a $229/night penthouse suite. Which do you prefer? I haven't seen anyone active on this forum that lives in Kiev, so we can't be of much practical help to you. You should make some contacts on the websites like www.traveltoukraine.org, www.ukraine.com or www.virtualtourist.com
If you actually have a job in Kiev, then your employer would be the best source of information for getting you settled. It would be in their best interest to keep you happy.

Hi Russ: A thought just came to me, the "green zone" must be where the parks are in the city on the west side of the river. I did not know about Western Union sending money"OUT", and "Would I Walk in there with $30K on me to wire out?" I will look up LMAO.
