Odessa Hospitals

Hello Again All, I know we have discussed this topic a bit in the past. But, I have new reasons to ask for advice again. My Question is, Are their any Hospitals in or around Odessa one would trust for serious Health Issues. Or would one need to fly back to the USA for serious Health care. KK, I remember you telling me once that you think I will retire early....You might be right. I just got out of the Hospital after a week stay and a Big Scare!! I was about minutes from a full blown heart attack when I arrived at the Hospital last Saturday !!

I have had two stints put into my heart, One side works only at 30%. And my Heart is enlarged.

A possible Medical retirement may be an option in the future. At the max if my Health allows, do my 30 years and then just walk away with what ever I have in my 401K.

I cant get out of my mind how stress free I was when visiting Odessa. Breathing the Ocean air. Walking the beach was so relaxing. I feel like a different man in Odessa. "Odessa is on my mind again, Greatly !! But, I am afraid I might be very dependent on USA Quality Health Care !!

There is a 'Cardiac Institute' in Odessa. I don't know about the quality. You might find more relevant information by talking to Kevin Nagle (kevin@infodessa.com). He spent two weeks in an Odessa hospital with surgery for appendicitis last November. He can give you a 'blow-by-blow' account of his experience. He also knows many people in the medical community there.

Ya NA I had/have the feeling you have had it in the states and Odesa stuck with ya...This place easily grows on ya. I'm just in shock about everyday..I think I mentioned the gov opened up 3 beaches near my house and I just cant believe what I see everyday !! I could get married again 4 times a week !!
A few things about your health issue. First and foremost, thank the lord that your alive ! Next; my opinion would be to evaluate your "quality of life" in both places.. In turn, if you valued that more than POSSIBLY living a few extra years then I would get everything done that can be done there, move, then monitor that ol ticker very closely living here.. I have been to the heart specialist here and yes they understand, and yes they can put you on a program that will work in their opinion.. My biggest concern here is having the big one then waiting for 45 minutes for the dam ambulance ! But now Intosana a private hospital who does have ambulances, has a program you can subscribe to, or pay a little money every month and they promise to pick you up quickly if needed.. So by them even offering this program tells me that my opinion about ambulance pick up is probably close to right..Very slow. Or move next door to the hospital !! But in any case Mr. NA, you will have to do some serious evaluating. I do know the chief surgeon Anatoli at the local hospital also ( he calls me that dam yankee, haha ) and he can and will direct you into the safest position after knowing your symptoms/condition.. And that may just be stay there..Also my wife just mentioned there is a heart clinic and cancer center in Odesa and most of the doctors were taught in Israel and a few may be from there which could be a very good option.. At any rate, I will be glad to introduce you to the people I know to get ya started if you wish..

Thanks Ken, I guess the next 2-3 months will all be about Physical Therapy and Evaluation on my heart. Trying to get meds set correct. Dropping some weight. Do a better job about by diabetes. I don't think my diabetes will be a concern, my Lena rides my ass hard in Loving Slovic/Russian way to keep me straight on bad foods ))).

I just need to get some strength back into my heart, its running on the low end right now. Time will tell. This was a coming to Jesus moment at 48 years old. The entire time I was at the Hospital I was scared of leaving my Lena and Vanessa alone. Damn what a low feeling.

I am interested if the Doc pushes the early retirement issue. The Doc mentioned it to my wife, but I think their goal is get me better as possible and live a normal life. We shall see.

When I told the Doctor my job and the hours I work....she said "Humn.....your one of them! I must cut back some at work, drop it down out of 5th gear down into 2nd gear. Learn to pace myself and not give a crap a bit more often. That's just not my way!! Not what my Dad taught me when he worked in Timber and the Coal mines and Rail Road.

Good to chat with you again Ken. I hope some day to bring my family to one of your Bar-B-Q's some day! Take care, Nate
