I have a good friend that lives in Vilkovo. Her and her boyfriend went on a skiing vacation in the Carpathians. Much needed break for her. While they were gone, some broke into her Mom's house and attacked her mom and her sisters. stabbed them multiple times. Her sister will need plastic surgery but they are okay. Her niece witnessed the whole thing.
Stabbing is a crime of passion, usually when the victim knows the attacker and their is a personal reason behind the attack. Burglars don't wield knives. I bet 10 bucks it was either her sister's ex or her ex.
Damn, I wish I were there...go cut the nuts off the guy that did this thing.

Hey Scott
Ya that really sucks... In all aspects, plus the niece ! BS in every way ! Listen, I understand this is a touchy subject with ya so I'm trying to tread lightly although I'm not very good at it. But I feel I could shed some light and possibly help..Listen,,you wrote about knife attacks being a "crime of passion " you wrote about burglar's not using knifes. Something didn't sit right with me when I read your post so here it is my friend..Obviously there are not to many guns in Ukraine. I have looked into getting a shotgun for pheasant hunting and it's tough to get anything that kills, very tough, even on the black market..Jail here is much different than the country clubs in the states, that's why.. They also like to make examples of foreigners and use them to negotiate. Be careful about retaliation my friend..SO my thought is Scott, in Ukraine knifes would be the weapon of choice for burglary's..Because, if a burglar had a gun, then he obviously has some money ( plus there super expensive ) and he probably would not be a burglar,,, right...So assuming one of the ex's did it, maybe, probably...Just telling you my thoughts to your post my friend..See ya, K.K.

yeah kk that's plausible but I agree with smm's interpretation only cos I seen that scenario back home a few times. They guy that did that to defenseless girls should be sectioned in mental health ward.....plus side is that usually the family members are murdered so at least this piece of xx pulled back from that...this type of guy thinks everyone must have put a bad word in with the ex about him so he's out for revenge...funny how they picked him so right! Ive been sick as a dog all week..total waste of time.....just went on a strange date with a woman who physically took me,(despite me showing her my spotless hands),tothe bathroomto wash my hands before the food arrived. Okay couple hours later at another cafe same thing again before that food arrives she takes me to the bathroom to wash hands...of course she doesnt come into mens to watch but wow....we werent eating finger food...maybe she's right?

Yeah...retaliation is not my thing. I was just venting. I watch a lot of true crime shows, kind of a hobby for me. That is where stabbing being a "crime of passion" comes from.
And I hear ya on the lack of guns in Ukraine. Could very well be the reason an alleged burglar broke in with a knife instead of a gun. Still doesn't explain the attack though.
I still have not talked to my friend since she got home, so don't know the details.

Here are my thoughts when read this. Crime of passion? Why wait until the ex girlfriend and new boyfriend are gone and attack the mother. Doesn't make sense. Not what in would do. Just because you use a knife here doesn't mean it's a crime of passion. Guns are hard to come by unless your police or mafia. It's my belief that this is a robbery gone bad. Criminals here use knives because they don't have antrying else. Just my 2 cents

So, finally found out more. Turns out the son of my friend's sister's best friend was the one who attacked her. No one knows why. He was drunk. He came over to the house to kill her, but the mother intervened so he attacked her also then fled. The mother is okay now, sustained several cuts but nothing serious. Sveta, my friend's sister, is still in the hospital in Odessa. She has a fracture to the front lobe area of her skull.
The man was arrested by police but then released. According to my friend..."because his mother washed his bloody clothes". I assumed because there was a lack of physical evidence on him. Who knows. He has to appear in court tomorrow. Can't see how he would be able to get away with it with two witnesses.

So maybe Ukraine is not so different from the U.S. A local Kiev T.V. station asked my friend's sister and her mother (the ones that got brutally attacked) to come up to Kiev because they wanted to do a TV show on the incident. They promised to pay for plastic surgery. When they got there, their line of questioning was accusatory, saying that they staged the attack and that they were trying to commit suicide. Really? Who commits suicide by stabbing themselves in the face. But to top it off, they brought the man who attacked them onto the show! Something straight out of Jerry Springer.
Here is a post on VK about it. Look for "17 Mar at 6:50am".

Latest development is that the police were able to find blood Sveta's blood on the man's clothes. Apparently he had tried to leave town and go join the army to avoid being arrested. Didn't work.
