" I might be moving to Dubai sometime early next year. I would be going as a diplomat. However, before I accept the position, I need to have an idea of how much it costs to live in Dubai. I would be moving with my wife and 11 y.o. daughter. What would be the cost of renting a three bedroom apartment/villa? What is the cost of tuition in the better international schools? How about the prices for cars? Are there adequate medical facilities for expats? As you can imagine, I will greatly appreciate your comments. Juan Mendez S. "

Hope this helps Appartments vary according to area but Dubai accomodation is VERY expensive!! Expect to pay between 60000 and 120000 dirhams per year (approx $14000 to$30000) Schools are approx 18000 dirhams a Month for a good International school ($450) Cars are very cheap compared to the rest of the World and Medical facilities are excellent (as good as you will find anywhere.) Like all countries there are exceptions to the prices I gave you but a family of three should expect to live comfortably on $700 a week for ALL expenses. Hope this hasn''t put you off as its a great place to live!! Good luck Steve

" Hi Steve, Thank you so much for your kind reply. Actually, from the information you provided, it seems like a good enough deal. Is it safe to assume that I can rent an apartment in one of the better neighborhoods for US$2,500 a month? I think that is quite good. How about renting a suite in one of the better hotels? I´ve just been reading up on the hotels and they appear to be quite affordable too. Regarding the school, I pay in Panama $650 at The International School of Panama for my daughter. If I happen to travel to Dubai to explore the place before I commit, where would be a good place to stay? I certainly appreciate your cooperation. Best regards, Juan "

Best source of info is Gulfnews.com and UAEMall.com Lots of good deals at the moment on furnished appartments can be found at both sites. Best place to stay when you come for visit is Jumeirah. Airport Information (Hotel Booking) in arrivals hall always has better deals than going direct!! 5 Star on beach costs about $80/night at the moment. Good luck!! Steve
