Teaching jobs in UAE?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are considering move to Dubai in August/September 2016 from Canada. My wife is a psychology major, and does not have a education background. I read in multiple places that the TEFL certificate is helpful for all trying to get a job in teaching.

My question is, can she without any teaching experience find a job, or is that near impossible? Also, is the TEFL certificate worth it?

Thank you!

To obtain a teaching job before travelling to UAE would require the person to be fully qualified as a teacher which means at least a degree and if working in a school, some sort of teaching qualification. TEFL is not rated very highly but is useful to give you skills and some sort of credibility with customers. As a spouse of someone who already has a job, you should be able to find additional work using your TEFL and building up more experience of private clients, once you arrive in UAE. With no prior experience in this area, you would be unlikely to find a job before travelling but as a spouse of a job and visa holder then you can find work once you arrive with your working spouse.

I really wonder guys how it is na that people in dubai are in waiting list to go dubai from years under immigration laws, and same time we see peeps coming to dubai to settle down.
I mean it is not only dubai, I have lot of guys in Uk and Aus asking me to look something in Dubai for us to settle or will they get the job etc etc..

What is that logic i am missing ? is that only that one is frustrated living in one town and wants to move.

Hi Taqi014,

I am an English teacher, teaching and translating for 16 years in Brazil, lived in LA for 7. I am an attorney, post graduated in business law and do contracts.

I met an Arab guy from Al Ain, UAE and he planted that idea and possibility of teaching there.

It's an alluring idea, that's why I am here in this forum. My life is okay is São Paulo, but the soul searches for more...

And you, where are you from? What brought you to this site?

Hi Patricia,
I'm engineering drawings teacher and I have 3 years experience. I'm Masters in mechanical engineering.
My friend there in Qatar suggested me to go to Dubai because there are better opportunity, better earnings and high standard of living.
Now I'm looking forward to interact with people worldwide who had experience of living in a gulf country and share there experience.
