" Hello Everyone. I''m planning a move to the London area in July 2001. I''m a canadian living in Vancouver at the moment. It is my intention to make London my home. Anyone have any advice on London?. What I do need is some areas in london that is residential, central, and not too expensive. I was paying at least 1000 pounds for a flat in Bath fully furnished. What can I get for something in the region of 600-1000 range? Central or out of town (if so.. how long on the tube?) Anywhere where it feels like a little town? By which I mean that one gets a sense of community and self contained? Just need a starting point. Thanks for all your help in advance. Best Regards, Jane Vancouver, Canada "

" Hi Jane, Not sure if your situation would allow this, but one of the best ways to find an area to live in is to explore the neighborhoods on foot or by bus. There are so many great streets and areas tucked away, they’re easy to miss. I’ve lived in central London for close to two years and I’m constantly discovering new ones. If you can, make a trip to London before you move here. At this time of year, you should be able to find plenty of cheap flights and with a couple of days of exploring, you will have found some neighborhoods that fulfill your requirements and, probably, a place to live. In the meantime, you can find a lot of info you are looking for on the web. A great starting point is Yahoo UK & Ireland. To get an idea of what rents are in different neighborhoods, check out www.findaproperty.com and www.propertyfile.co.uk. These sites list flats for rent from several agencies. The classified paper “Loot” is also a very good source for finding a flat. Their web site can be found at www.loot.com. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. "
