What steps do I need to take for my wife and I to move from the US to London? I currently have 10 years experience in Hospitality at a 600-700 room resort.

You're both American?

You must have a visa to live and work in the UK. As the hospitality industry is one that rarely finds itself with a shortage of staff, your chances of finding a visa sponsor aren't good. The UK has a pool of about 500 million workers to choose from in the UK and EU, none of whom need to be sponsored for a work visa. The 1st hurdle is that the position has to meet the resident market test which means that the job has been posted and the employer has not been able to find anyone in the UK or EU who can fill the job.

There are just 20,700 work visas available each year. Those are going to go to the the best and brightest with unique skills in their field. With no shortage of hospitality workers across all job categories thanks to the huge pool to choose from and the current economic situation, your chances of finding a registered sponsor are pretty slim.

gah26 is right as an American you'll never qualify esp with all the eastern block contingents who can just walk in and start work.
Get hired in the states as upper management by a US based company who has hotels/resorts in the UK. You need to be like an envoy from the mother company and a specialist in catering to their(US) hospitality in UK.
I Know three people who have pulled it off and are now married to a local and have full residency- in one case there was a divorce and he is now a marketing guy for Bourne Leisure Group! Good story !
Remember that Brits (esp senior UK civil servants/home office types)still view the US as a relinquished Colony! Despite the war they decided was unnecessary to win and so surrendered the colony to the locals-(1775-1783)
