Hi everybody! I need your help!
My husband thinks to accept an job offer in Essex, UK. Now we're living in South America as expat with all the expat's benefits (house, private school and trips to home country). Now he received an offer for a local package in UK.
Basically: 115 K pounds per year (before taxes) + annual bonus + car allowance (not much) + private healthcare for family (3 children: 16, 12 and 9), + move and relocation expenses
(Not accomodation, not yearly trip to home, not private school)
We are considering public school for children (They are fully bilingual)
How is the cost of living in that area (Chelmsford, Braintree, etc) actually: rental house, car, utilities, groceries for 5, entertainment, academy, extra classes for my children (Ballet, swimming
Is that enough to have a good/high standard of living as here?
Is Essex a nice place to live in? Does it have good schools?
Please, help me!

Well, taxes are high - remember you'll be paying council tax even if you rent, and that there's an annual road tax, monthly TV tax. Make sure the school district you live in is accepting students - we found out the hard way that they are not required to accept you just due to your housing location.

Hi, the total package is fine for living in the UK and I wouldn't worry about taxes as there is a reciprocal tax agreement between UK and USA. I live in UK but lived in the USA for 23 years. I can only compare with the US, I lived in LA, Eastern Long Island and Raleigh NC. Life is different here and like very country has plusses and minuses. You say you want a high standard of living, but what does that mean and what are you used to. I guess I don't have a standard of living as high as when I lived in Singapore but my quality of life is better. I suspect that you will not have all the advantages of living in a less expensive South American country and if you want the same here then you won't be able to afford it. I had a live in maid and a driver when I lived in Singapore, I couldn't afford that in the US or UK. It's a big decision, but lot's of Americans are happy here particularly with access to Europe.
