Hello. I am in the process of traveling to Uruguay. I was born in Montevideo but left at a young age and now I reside in United States, Florida. My daughter is 13 years old and unfortunately, she does not speak Spanish. I have family there and wish to stay for awhile but I am worried that my daughter might not like it, especially because we are going in July. Is winter there that bad? Where are the places that my daughter and I can visit so she won't be bored? Are there any Americans kids living there? Any information that you can provide me it would be very helpful. Thank you.

I am sorry I did not respond immediately. I returned to the US for the holidays and have not been visiting this site. I hope you located the group who meets through David Fizner, the gentleman who has the uruguayliving blog. Another good contact is Jennifer Sprigings who works for LARM (you can google it, I don't have the address any more). She works for a re-location company, and I know you said you were doing self research, but it is always good to get local insight which you might not be able to figure out yourself. Another good way to meet ex-pats and get good advice is through the American Women's Club. Again, just google American Womens Club Montevideo to get in touch with them. I will be back mid-January and if you need more guidance let me know through the new 'expat connect' feature on this web site.
Good luck! I like Uruguay very much and think you would enjoy retiring there.
