Hi,

Montevideo is the capitol city of UY and the seat of the Mercusor. This is as sophistocated city as Chicago or St. Louis. Of course you can take Spanish lessons with a group, or alone, you can go to a language institute or have the teacher come to you. And you can pay anywhere from US$ 50 per month to US$ 50 per hour and anything in between. You can go to a University, or a small language institute, or find a private teacher working independently.

Thank you Valentine.

I have done some research and it looks like Academia Uruguay on Plaza Constitucuion in Ciudad Vieja would be the best value for group lessons and has the most recommendations, at about$10 USD per hour.

I have had high school and college Spanish classes and am currently using a home study course called "The Learnables" to review.

Hi,

Here is an idea for learning Spanish. Go to the Aliance (that is the language school which works with the US embassy so you can get their contact info from them) and volunteer to lead conversation classes, then trade with some of the students for conversation in Spanish. If you are already studying grammer and structure on your own all you really need is conversation and someone who will correct you.

Not only is that a good idea for learning Spanish for free, but you will also make aquaintances who can help you get settled in here.
