Uruguay is on the short list for retirement. I need information on firearms laws and regulatons. Could anyone answer questions or provide a web-site to check? Thank-you.

What exactly do you want to know?
If you bring firearms with you, they will be retained by the Army until you get your residency and the corresponding permits.

If you bring firearms with you, you must declare them and they will be kept at a specifica army department until your residency have been approved and you got your local permits. They might be some special regulations for huntig guns due to the hunting tourism.

Specifically, how many of each catagory (rifles, shotguns, and handguns) may one bring in? Are semi-auto firearms allowed? Is there any legal provisions for conceled carry? Are there any ammunition restrictions? Are there firearm sporting clubs,i.e. Trap, skeet, and target shooting facilities? I do not look forward to giving up my sport...let alone divesting myself of a collection worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Thank-you,

There is no limit in quantity, but there are caliber limits. Some calibers are considered as war weapons and are not allowed for normal people. I don't know the regulations about semiautomatic guns, but I think you will need a special permit for them. There are several shooting clubs. If you want to keep your collection, then you should ask first a customs broker, as same will not be considered as moving household goods, therefore you will have to import same. Only few people are allowed to carry armed weapons (policemen, militaries and special persons who carry every day values over certain amount). All other persons can carry their guns, but not ready for immediate use. By law the use of guns is onlyu allowed for deffense, but be aware, as not in every case this will be considered.
