I'm retired pilot and not over the addiction. I would be living in Ecuador now but they have no AV fuel availability and are extremely unfriendly to General Aviation. Is UY any better? I've heard rumors but no facts. Large metro areas not required. Any other suggestions? Chile? Argentina? Needs to be accessible from USA in a light plane so probably limited to Latin America.

Hi, I am a CFI,(single engine and Gliders). There is an FBO at Punta del Este airport. Small office. I went there, but no one was there. I have corresponded with them by email. Not sure how many students they have. I do know that GA is huge in Argentina. I will be in Uruguay next week, I will put it on my "to do" list, to stop by that FBO again! I fly almost daily, and you are correct, it is an addiction! I'm already concerned how I am not going to be able to fly so easily! Glad to see another pilot !

Thanks for the quick reply. I knew a lot of pilots in Ecuador but they weren't active and there weren't any real FBO's at SEQU. I will bring my AA5b Tiger where ever I go for longer than 6 months. But I can't operate on auto fuel. I believe there is a Grumman Cougar in Punta del Este. I just want to use it to travel around vs the bus. I'm Done working.

Thanks, It is difficult to get good current info. I have an AA5b Tiger and plan on bringing it where I go if it's over 6 months. I believe someone at Punta del Este has a Cougar GA-7. I knew quite a few pilots in Ecuador but there as no 100LL or rentals at SEQU. They were unfriendly to General Aviation, just seeing it as an activity of the ultra rich. I just want to use the plane in lieu of a bus since it is faster and safer. Not much more expensive than a car.

Hi, my husband's uncle is an Uruguayan pilot so he knows all about plains in Uruguay :), we forwarded your question and this is his answer:
Uruguay is a small country, the distances are short and good internal roads that achieve good access to all parts of the country. Because of that, the fleet of general aviation aircraft is very small and basically is concentrated in the city of Montevideo. There are no FBOs to the concept used in the USA, there are workshops, are basically similar, providing services of all kinds. The main workshops are located at the airport Angel S. Adami SUAA in Montevideo. There is availability of aviation fuel high octane for the exclusive use of aircraft at major airfields in the country.
I leave an address to which inquiries can be made that wish. it is the Aeroclub of Uruguay http://www.aeroclubdeluruguay.edu.uy
I hope this information will be useful.

Rouy,
Thank you for the very helpful reply. I will contact the Aeroclub of Uruguay for further details. I would think a small plane in Uruguay would be more useful for international trips to Argentina, Brazil, etc than travel in Uruguay itself. The geography and road infrastructure within Uruguay seem pretty friendly toward driving. Possibly having the plane there would allow living in a smaller community but still get easy access to Montevideo and the beach areas. We'll see. Thanks again!
