We will be coming to Montevideo in 2 weeks. I read taxis are expensive to get into the city from the airport. The two of us will each have a suitcase and carry on. I have seen mentioned a shuttle? Can anyone tell me more about there - how to get the shuttle, of any other advice to get from airport into the city. Thank you in advance and hope to see soeme of you!

I have been in Montevideo for over two weeks and through investigation, for when I leave may 10, have found that the 1st class bus company called COT has service to and from Carrasco airport daily for the cost of $144 Uruguay pesos (approx. $70.00 U.S.). I'm not sure if any tax or processing fee might be added. Great bus with under carriage luggage. The bus goes from Carrasco to Tres Cruses mall. From there, you can take a local bus to what ever part otown you want to go. For example #CA1 goes to the central city via Av 18 de Julio. #116 to La Ciudad Viejo & #62 to Positos. Of course there others. Cost for locals is about $15 - 22 Pesos (approx. .75 - $1.00 U.S.). Taxi in city showed me a rate card to Carrasco at $745 pesos. Tipping not normal for taxis but expect to
round up so you can expect to pay up to $8oo pesos. ($40.00 U.S.). I suggest you come with, or get at the airport, Uruguay pesos at airport as taxis and buses do not accept U.S.
Hope this helps and you have a great time here. It's high on my list of places to eventually put down my roots.

Error! That's $7.00 U.S. not $70.00. Sorry.
