Don't take the white cabs. Use the black and yellow cabs who are leaving people off. They are cheaper.

Can anyone help James on buses from the airport at midnight?

Actually the back and yellow are now being replaced by white and yellow and what you are suggesting unsafe and illegal.

and yes, most buses run 24 hours and to go to 3x you can use a bunch of them, just ask the driver if he is going to 3x.

Carlitos, sorry, I was asking what was unsafe about taking the yellow and black cabs from the airport. I'd taken them and nothing bad happened. Just curious.

3x is safe but the surrounding at that time won't be, why don't you find the hotel and we tell you how to get there, most buses from the airport don't end the 3x they end in another terminal called rio branco. May be the bus continue after 3x and allow you to be very close to your hotel, Anyway, at first you gave me the impression you would be going to 3x but now I know it is not the case, so if I were you I would pay the 50 bucks to a cab from the airport. Terminal rio branco also called Bastazar brum is not safe at all at anytime day or night.

White cabs are reserved for arrivals and are nicer cabs. Yellow and black are the common ones you see all over the city. White ones charge more, but the city cabs (b&y) don't charge the same rate. You could take the bus into town and then hire a cab (b&y) from there to cut down on cost. I still don't understand the illegal nor unsafe aspect to using the black & yellow. Of course, if there are no departing flights around the time you arrive, you might not see any b&ys.

Arriving & departing are both on the same level. White cabs are queued up on the curb and the b & y drive up, let out their fare and drive away. Since you are coming in late, check departing flight schedules to make sure there is a later flight out. No later flights out, no b & y cabs.

departures are up stairs.

How much a black and white or black and yellow cab will charge at that time from the airport to 3x?

hi, we have a friend who's a cab driver and he said that the only way the city ones are allowed to pick someone up is if you reserve them ahead, and if they have your name they are allowed to wait for you. His name is Gus (Gustavo) and his cell phone is 091-659-587. I have not noticed the yellow & white are more expensive than the black & yellow, but I'll check. Gus does not use email, but he has a card that says "speaks English" and "airport runs" (he lived in New Jersey a long time)... we find him to be a nice guy. Just by distance from here (Montevideo) it should be about 400 pesos or less but there is a standard airport charge of 600 or 700 pesos it seems, going from the city. And when I got off the plane it was a $50 charge. As for buses, the "comoir" site works for buses, but not the one that goes to the airport... http://comoir.montevideo.gub.uy/
here is a website for the buses that run to the airport http://www.aeropuertodecarrasco.com.uy/en/transporte.php

Guys, please be reasonable. Black and yellow cabs(the new version white and yellow) are Montevideo cabs, who are not allowed to pick up passengers outside the district of Montevideo. The airport is about 5 km outside Montevideo and therefore you have to use cabs from Canelones or the airport cabs.
There is one bus, which goes from Punta Carretas to Zonamerica and back and passes by the airport (just outside the door). This bus cost almost 2 bucks and runs 24 hrs a day (at night and on weekends less often). The terminal in Punta Carretas is close to the Sheraton and one of the last stopsis just in front of the Punta Carretas Mall. There are a couple of hotels in that area.

Forget the price of 400 Pesos. For that price you can't get from the airport to downtown. Maybe you can reach Malvin, but you have to consider also that at arrival time (midnight) the prices of Montevideo cabs are 30% higher than during the day. Please, before answeringanything, think about the questions made.
