Looking for expats residing in the area of San Jacinto.
We have found a reasonable prop in the area and I would like to know more about this place,
Would also like to meet around 3rd of March 2015.
Cheers.

you will have to drive about 30kms to find expats in Atlantida. But the soil in there is very fertile and the locals are simple and friendly.

Hola Carlitos, thank you for your input. It seems its not exactly the place to be for expats? Though it's not very far from Atlantida and from the beach. We are considering farming, this is why we came across this place.

I think San Jacinto is just perfect for an expat family, but you need to come and see first before you make any move. I understand most of the expats want to live where other expats are. but some people are not like that.

Anything more than a ten minute walk is far from the beach!

Even in Atlantida it is unusual to hear anyone speaking English in the stores or on the streets. I rarely see anyone I know unless we had planned to meet.

Anywhere more than a 10 minute drive out of Atlantida is farm land.

Also, if there are good properties there, having an expat family in the "neighborhood" often will bring a couple other families too... or like our project of co-housing. It doesn't have to be 10 families, it can be 5... etc.

Morell,

are you kidding, that you never met any expat other than the ones you met in the meetings? I never went to any meeting, and run into more than 10 folks from many different countries. When I was 14 I run into the first, it was a man from France, 30 years later we went to have dinner on his house in Paris. Now I can see a couple they are passing in front of my house about once or twice a week, I am guessing they are from the U, one of those days, I will ask.

Today I went to Tienda Inglesa,( the big supermarket) then into Disco ( another smaller supermarket as the first one had no fresh herbs that I wanted), then I went to the feria ( the street market) and then to a carniceria ( butcher). I heard no English anywhere, did see in the distance but not speak to someone I knew from the US.
Everyone I conversed with shopping only spoke Spanish.

I just don't want people to think that Atlantida is gringoland with English spoken by most people and lots of N. Americans strolling around the streets. I knew a couple from the US who were here for over a year before realizing there were others here from N. America.

Carlitos, I can only think of a one or two folk I have met by accident here. Mostly it is through the lunches that we see new people or they are friends of friends.

Good points Morell,
in MHO i believe anyone thinking of moving to UY should be thinking of learning Spanish and joining the local community and not be thinking of just living in an expat community. In my visit to Panama I saw most of the Americans move to a gated community isolating themselves from the locals. This was not appreciated by the locals.
And again in MHO this seems to defeat the whole purpose of moving to a foreign country.

Hi everyone,
thank you for your inputs. Of course we do want to mingle with the locals, and we are studying Spanish, even our daughter.

I have experience living abroad (India) and wasnt in touch with any expats for about 3 years, i enjoyed staying there and even did share my accomodation with 3 locals,

I just wanted to have some opinion on that particular area.

Yes its about 30 minutes from beach in Atlantida,

i didnt mean to be isolating myself by looking for expats here.

I just thought it would be a good indicator if this place is maybe in the scope of other expats looking for a decent place in Uy, or even are already settled there

thank you Carlitos, this was the kind of input i was looking for.

Its a misunderstanding, that I was thinking of living isolated from the local live.
