Researching coming to Montevideo

Hi:

I just recently joined this forum and it looks like a good one. A few simple questions please. Any advice would be appreciated:

I'm a US citizen, 70 age, single, I write for an online magazine and do some internet marketing stuff for a little income too.

Can I find a room or small studio somewhere? Or a 'share'?

Is the internet good enough in Montevideo to support skype and YouTube?

Are there ATMs where I can use my debit card from UAE?

Is there any Salsa and/or Bachata there?

I assume I can take Tango lessons somewhere, right?

Is it difficult, or not, to meet local women?

Is it possible to eat 'out', like the working-class locals do, without spending too much money? Or would I be better advised to 'cook in'?

That's about it. Thanks in advance.

I'm sure this exists, but I'm not sure where. Others might know specifics. You could also ask on the expat facebook group.

>Is the internet good enough in Montevideo to support skype
>and YouTube?

Yes, easily. In the city, fiber to the door is available. There's also 4G. I'm currently using 4G from a rural area outside montevideo. I a computer programmer so I need fast reliable internet also. Even at 3G speeds which is an order of magnitude slower than 4G, skype works just fine. Youtube is a little slow at 3G, but works great on HD at 4G. And fiber will be as fast or faster than 4G.

>Are there ATMs where I can use my debit card from UAE?

There are ATMs everywhere that allow you to draw on foreign bank accounts. Many can even operate in english.

>Is there any Salsa and/or Bachata there?

Can't help here. :-)

>I assume I can take Tango lessons somewhere, right?

Yes

>Is it difficult, or not, to meet local women?

I'm married, but from what I can tell, the single men are happy with that situation here.

Yes and yes. There are carritos (a type of roach coach) where you can get various types of local fair. But it gets old in a hurry. You'll want to be able to cook at home both for variety and to save money.

no problem. I'm sure others here will know more about the things I couldn't answer.
