Hey everyone,

Beenb awhile since I checked in. I hope you're all doing well.

Been wondering what the musical instrument stores are like Uruguay. I Visited a few websites, but I'd appreciate your thoughts on any experiences you've had. I worked in that field for a long time. Also looking for any info on musical instrument distributors there.

i dont know if this is helpful information, but there is a children's orchestral school in Minas. Fabini Music School. There is also a classical guitarist who gives lessons here. I am not a musician, and my Spanish is not good, so there are probably a lot more professional music places here that i dont even know about. There are a lot of candombe drum players here. And the art and culture club, Casa Encantada has free music about once a week during the winter and several times a week during the summer. Locally there is a ( small ) big band jazz group, with an amazing female vocalist. URuguayans love , and perform , all kinds of music and I just cant believe that there arent, therefore, lots of places to buy musical instruments, without having to bring them down from brazil , or up from argentina. ( check mercado libre for used ones... ) here, in this small town, there are some music accessories for sale like speakers, and percussive instruments, in the window of the furniture shop, of all places. I dont get around Montevideo much, but i am sure there are instrument stores there? The cultural museums have alot of free musical concerts. Last winter i listened to a classical guitarist, Mathius Atchugarry, who was fantastic - and has represented the country of Uruguay in foreign competitions. He toured 10 small cities as part of an artist-in-residence program. This country pays some artists , so they have a steady income , and then they go around spreading their talent around the country ( do this forfine artists , and craftspersons , too ) I also saw, for free, a folk dances of URuguay performance that was free. All this in one small town out in the sticks. ( and once a month is a tango night, which i havent gotten to yet, but i think has live music. ) The El Pais newspaper has tons of display ads for concerts. As i am sure you know, the Rolling Stones were here, and in 2 weeks the great Washington D.C. band SOJA ( reggae ish ) plays in M.V.
