Funeral arrangements

For expats used to the slower pace of funerals in many countries, here things happen very fast.
The Minister of Defence died early this morning and the funeral is taking place this afternoon at 3.00pm.

Normally bodies are buried within 24 hours, unless an autopsy is needed.
I am used to the UK where funerals can be almost a week after death or Canada where it is at least several days later. Here you have to make arrangements very quickly.

If you want to be cremated there is a form you have to sign ( ahead of time of course) and some formalities but you also have to pay the fee for this in advance which is currently $5,457 pesos.

You can also pay an additional monthly fee to your Mutualista for funeral expenses.

that´s true Morell, and because the "salon funebre" and all the stuff are really expensive, you can pay every month with your Mutualista;´s bill or directly at the "empresa funebre",
Like this, when people die, all the expenses are really paid.

Like Morell said to pay "emergencia movil" it´s really important and not expensive, I´d say the same for "empresa funebre".

Have a nice day,
Rosana

Usually to be buried must take minimum 24 hours, but the minister was very ill and died in hospital. This accelerate the process.

According to my son in law, this is why flower shops are open all night. They'll even have a funeral in the middle of the night.

I'm guessing it's because they don't have proper morgues, embalming practices, or refrigeration.
