Organic Coconut oil, quinoa, maca powder

Post New Topic

Hi. First ever post. I've been a resident of Ecuador for seven years but on to the next adventure-in Uruguay. Can someone please tell me of their successful and satisfied purchase of the following items-coconut oil, quinoa, maca powder, yucca. (organic of course!) also, the purchase of local medicinal herbs? And what might those be? Thanks a million!

i am positive you can get all that stuff in montevideo, cuz i can get most of it in the small city/big town that i live in. The grocery stores all sell maca powder, i dont know the quality or whether it is organic. I havent seen what is called yucca in the United States, but there seems to be every kind of yam/potato here, so, again, probably a town with better selection ( this is boniato country, in dark purple, orange, or yellow - all of which the English word would be sweet potato or yam ) the health food stores have organic coconut oil. there is a local uruguayan company, Prana, that makes really good coconut products, i dont know if they make oil but there coconut flour is divine. All the stores have quinoa. All the stores and pharmacies in Uruguay seem to sell medicinal herbs. there are numerous companies and are very inexpensive. Local people , at the ferias, also pick herbs and sell them. I DONT use maca becuz it mimicks estrogen, and can cause problems for people who have hormonal imbalance issues. I only mention that cuz everyone thinks it is the perfect miracle food - the side effects are rarely talked about. ( just like not everyone should take ginseng , either. ) this place also has a LOT of chia avaialble!

I agree with the comments just before mine. I have found all these products. I use organic coconut oil regularly. You can find it at an organic street market in Piriapolis, Punta del Este and Montevideo. You can also find it for more money at the mercado verde which is in MVD and Punta del Este. http://www.mercadoverde.com.uy/productos.php
Hope this helps. It's winter here now and the farmer's market and organic food are available every Sunday at 10 a.m. I don't know where you are, but just ask around to a few expats and you are sure to find them. The coconut oil was a special order from the woman that sells it for a lot more money at the farmer's market. I ordered a bucket full and it was a lot less in price. Since it rarely goes bad I'm glad to have it.
Also, I don't know if the quinoa is organic or not but I do know that two brands have a lot of organic options:

Campo Claro (rice, raw sugar, flour, etc) and La Abundancia.

The larger Tienda Inglesa and the larger Devoto stores carry organic. If you ask one of the store clerks they know where they are.

Farmer's markets are superb for buying other things organic like soap, shampoo, creams, bread, etc. plus lots of organic produce. Just ask if they have organic. The Sunday market here is a 100% organic farmer's market. Where are you located?

Welcome to Uruguay! (you are here right?)

Thanks so much! How about raw goat milk? Trace mineral supplements, etc? Also read rumors of them starting fracking in UY which makes no sense given the amount of water there. But living in Ecuador for seven years I know how rumors go about our new country!

Hi! No I'm in Ecuador for the last seven years but hoping to be in UY by March 2017 if all goes well. Also lived in Panama briefly so not squeamish of LA migration. Ha. So glad to hear of these options for healthy foods. Does anyone grow there own organic produce there? Any tips on that? Thanks again ladies!

I don't know about the goats milk but I would think they have it. They certainly have a lot of goats and some products from them.
I have heard absolutely NOTHING about fracking.

I have found many supplements here in Uruguay that I didn't know were here.

People had said they didn't exist, but then we live next door to a pharmacist so I went to the pharmacy where she works and found out that if you ask, they have them behind the counter. I have not asked about trace minerals because I brought enough with me for a long time because of not knowing.

Also, since I've been here, and being a holistic health practitioner, I've found that the foods that contain the trace minerals are fresh and available and by my body's health, I feel like I'm getting what I need.

There are places in Uruguay that have wonderful soil that produces some of the greenest, tastiest greens I've ever had. Chard and Kale, Parsley and Celery and Spinach are dark, dark green and crisp and have a heavenly taste.

The meat that we eat is free range and is out of this world delicious, also the poultry. So all the nutrition that meat gives when it's natural, free-range and wholesome, you get here.

Overall we feel better and more satisfied with what we eat than we did in the States. Having never lived in Ecuador, I can't compare Uruguay with it. We believe that even though it is not cheap to live in Uruguay, we defiinitely made the right choice to move here.

There is a lot of sunshine to get vit C and D3 (controlled times in the sun are less because the ozone layer is thinner).

Hmmm -- I guess you could bring your own trace minerals, then when you begin to shop at the organic markets, you will find the foods that have the trace minerals you feel you need. Hope that helps.

Where are you going to live when you first come to Uruguay? It would be fun to meet up.

Hi again. Feel a bit like a voyeur but that's the world we live in-I clicked on your name and read some of your old posts. Did you go to PDE first and then MVD? What is the name of your blog? Me and the hubby are doing all our internet research now. Also, we have friends moving to PDE soon and others that live there part time and part time in CA, USA. We are hoping to make our first visit sometime in Sept. Assuming a few things fall into place. Very much looking forward to it. We are high in the Andes here and have been living in year round, perpetual fall weather, with no seasons (and no blueberries! ??) for over 7 years now. Ready for the next adventure!

For the last 3 years the Chemtrails sprayed in BsAs are engineered to drift via the prevailing winds along the Coast of UY --- about 4 days to, some times, 7 days a week ...
Nearly impossible to get your 'D'-requirements here --- specially in 2016 ...

Hi!
We live in Punta del Este. We have never lived in MVD nor do we have any desire to do so. We are not city people! ?? In Michigan we lived in a community where there were only a few thousand people and the closest "big" town was 20 miles away with about 40,000 people year round and maybe a million (depending on the events in the area) during the summer. Very much like Punta del Este.

I'm a holistic health practitioner and ran an Ayuvedic Spa for 25 years there. We had lots of raised gardens and grew our own organic veggies. It was a great lifestyle but a bit unsustainable in the 9 months of frozen northern Michigan!!

My blogs are www.lindawilsonsblog.com and www.liveworkandretireinUruguay.com

Currently, I teach business studies at a bilingual school. I thought I would be teaching English, but they already had someone. I'm very excited about other opportunities I am currently exploring.

My partner is a concert pianist and piano teacher, plus reviews books for a magazine and also reviews new books for another company. So we definitely keep busy and happy.

We love it here. All I can say is that day by day we are ever grateful for
the decision to move to Uruguay.

Lots of adjustments, but mostly because of some major changes we made, that we were already going to make in the states that would have been big adjustments whether or not we moved here.

We've been here since October 2015 so we're coming up on a year now. We have our temporary residency and will have our permanent residency in September.

We had a truly awesome woman help us with all the necessary
paperwork and everything legal and it all went through quickly and
smoothly. Her name is Ana Inez if you happen to need her.

So many good things - we are constantly giving thanks for such good fortune as we experience day after day.

Do you speak Spanish? We're learning it. We both lived in Brazil for a long time and are fluent in Portuguese which has really been a huge help! abrazos

I have found Vit. D3 available at a Pharmacy made by a reputable company though I know that Vit D3 is good basically no matter which company makes it!

Ernesto is the first person I've heard from that shared that information. I'm not totally surprised if that's so, but with the circle of people I have for friends, I am surprised that they have not said anything since we're all concerned about it. There always has to be a place where we first find out. Ernesto must be it. Now I will do my due diligence and see how bad it is in comparison to where I came from in Michigan which was VERY bad.

As long as it remains a civil conversation, we are all entitled to what we think is right. However, when I watched the airplanes playing tic tac toe in the skies over the great lakes with great trails of "fog", some explanation other than the vapor from
commercial airlines was definitely in order. I've followed the information for a long time and made it a point of research (since I am a professional researcher). Chemtrails have plenty of support. But, like anything, you don't need to believe it. I didn't want to, which is why I studied it in depth for so long. I can find no other sane or scientific explanation up to this point, especially after the whistleblowers came out with their information as well. Best to keep an open mind and do your due diligence.

Chemtrails = Unproven theory that states that high flying aircrafts spray chemicals deliberately for some sinister purpose.

Contrails = Condensation trails. These are produced primarily by jet airplanes exhaust system and are composed mainly of water, in the form of ice crystals.

Uruguay definitely doesn't spray chemtrails.
Argentina can hardly manage their country, I doubt they want to manage the atmosphere.

There are some very skilled pilots that write messages and advertising in the sky using these harmless "contrails".

I spent 2 months last summer in Uruguay and didn't see any evidence of clouds of chemtrails coming from Argentina.
As far as I can tell and based on personal experience the sky in Uruguay is still clean and clear as has always been.
Just be careful with the thin Ozone layer and use the appropriate protection.

Now I'm confused

Ernesto, you wrote:
"For the last 3 years the Chemtrails sprayed in BsAs are engineered to drift via the prevailing winds along the Coast of UY. .. "
and also:
" neither UY nor AR are 'spraying --- the GLOBALISTs sprayin"

First of all, you said that you've been here for 3 years so you're saying that the chemtrails started just about when you arrived here?
You're also saying that Argentina "IS NOT" spraying but there is spraying done over Bs As (which is in Argentina).
According to you the spraying is done by the Globalists over the second largest city in South America.
Is this done with Argentina's approval?
Are these planes violating Argentina's airspace to spray those chemicals?
Argentina is a big country; Why doing this right on top of the biggest city?
How come none of the "loud and oustspoken" 12 millions living there never complained about it?
There are no reliable youtube videos of these events over Buenos Aires.
How come the "ambientalists of Gualeguaychu" don't know anything about this?
Did you know they blocked an international bridge between Argentina and Uruguay for 3 years in fear that UPM (Paper Mill) could contaminate the Uruguay river?
This is happening right next to them, and they're always ready for a good "piquete" (demonstration consisting in blocking the way).
I don't know about these Globalists but you don't mess with the "Gualeguaychu piqueteros"
I'm just trying to make some sense out of all this but you're not making it easy for me.

I don't have the time to go into everything, but just a few comments that the Globalists don't ask anyone. They don't receive permission to do this. Period. On any subject!

This is a much bigger thing than one country. "They" take their "orders" from those with much more authority in their global plan than a mere government of one country.

If you are truly serious about knowing what this is really about, and are not already set that this is "crap", then you will search as if your life depended on it -- which it does.

At one time I did not believe any of this and thought everyone that did was 'catastrophizing" everything. Sort of like "the sky is falling" kind of thing.

After several years of being willing to listen to both sides of the story, I found it too serious to ignore. I purchased videos by whistleblowers from both the ex-military and from those who were involved with the actual spraying. I watched videos of the conferences where I learned that some of the things being sprayed were part of an experiment to see if one thing or another could be controlled -- mostly weather.

They were presenting material about this and then saying that there is always residual loss of life and that it is the sacrifice of the few for the benefit of the many. I own the videos but I haven't unpacked them yet.

If there is death, well that's part of scientific advance. If there is greater disease or defects, then that's why we have drug companies -- follow the money and the motive --which is money and control.

Read everything you can about chemtrails from those who believe in them, and then at least make an informed decision. You can search on google: https://www.google.com.uy/search?q=geo+engineering+of+chemtrails&oq=geo+engineering+of+chemtrails+&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l2.8327j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

This whole chemtrail thing is very similar to the argument that marijuana and hemp by-products don't heal disease. They do. Period. But because the cancer treatment protocols bring in so much money to pad the pockets of Big Pharma, people die by the thousands not knowing that there is a cure for nearly all cancer. I know because I know what they are. Yes -- there is a cure for cancers: lung, colon, pancreatic, breast, liver, brain, etc. all the baddies.

But when you have "BIG" fighting to keep the population from finding out what's actually going on, it's hard to sort out truth from fiction. I'm not a conspiracy theorist either. I'm an information researcher.

So the things I learn about many different subjects is blowing my mind. When you go "behind the scenes" so to say, you find that we are being fed lies so big that it's actually quite depressing.

So just because those of us who have learned the information are not able to share information with you instantly that we have gathered over years and hours of study, I urge you not to close your mind, but to research it on your own.

Make yourself go to the sites that are contrary to your current position and read what they have to say -- on any subject you choose. Then allow yourself time to process, compare, and even do more research.

The consequences of all of these things (air, water, food, wellness) being tampered with when we can't live without them is monumental.
Just sayin!

Dear EdNewYorkCity,
From your reply I can see the lack of your understanding of what REALLY is going on around you --- exactly where our OWNERS want the Zombies to be ...
To start out > inform yourself about the 'Georgia Guidestones' and the Extermination Program in process ...
THEN: Look up what 'Citizen' really means from way back with the so called Founding Fathers --- you will get the surprise of you life > it means SLAVE --- SO, when asked at the point of entry into the US, Inc.: "Citizen of ...?' you ARE asked: 'SLAVE of what Country' ...
From there, and with some efforts on your side you will be able to answer ALL of your Qs yourself --- although the answers you will discover are 180 degrees different from what you presently think ...
Related to the Chemtrails are the GMO-crops/so called 'Foods' --- here is a article showing the enormous cancer rate in AR related to Glyphosate and GMO (very similar to UY where Soy and Corn are "cultivated" ...) known for many years and totally ignored by the Gofer-Press for the Oligarchy Owners just like in the US, Inc. ...
There are several books out ( OMG -- BOOKS !!) which detail how 'everything you think you know' is 180 degree the opposite of what really is ... I am talking about Science, Medicine, the Universe, THE LOT(!) and the Universities with their Academia are but Disinformation Gofers for the Eugenicists, the Slave Wardens ---

I know it isn;t worth trying to change your mind which has fixated on almost every conspiracy theory there is but cancer rates are highest in countries like Denmark, France and Belgium - places that I believe are not GMO hotspots.
Argentina is way down the list at number 49

Otto Warburg did not discover a cure for cancer - far from it.

Please carry on the conversation in a civil and respectful manner. I have been a holistic health practitioner and researcher for the past 25 years, and didn't use to believe there was a cure either. But lots of other kinds of work are going on than that which you shared. I know about them but perhaps you don't yet.
There is a cure for almost every kind of cancer already. Dig deeper.
Watch the entire program www.thetruthaboutcancer.com for starters and then go from there.
You mentioned that my mind was probably closed. That's a strange comment to make to someone who is a researcher. I started where you are and moved to where I am, which means that many thousands of hours have been spent peeling the layers off the onion to find a greater truth.
I have certainly read the articles from conventional medicine and from research by organizations that have been doing cancer research for years.
I'm simply sharing that there is a greater body of information that is not readily available because it is hidden.
Just so you know, I am not a conspiracy theory person. I just study and find stuff that is important when all the regular, conventional things have not worked.
Again, read the things with which you don't agree and open your mind to learn something beyond what you now know. It doesn't hurt and it could be very valuable information. It's also the way to do in-depth research about controversial subjects. At least that is my perspective.

Argentina’s City of Death:
Toxic Weed Killer Causing Cancer, Miscarriages
In the Argentine city of Monte Maíz, miscarriages and cases of cancer are registered 5 times more often than among half the world's population. Meanwhile, its own population is estimated at just 8,500 people.
Forty percent of deaths here occur due to lung cancer, and the reason for it is an herbicide called glyphosate.
"In places, where large amounts of glyphosate-treated soy are grown, all studies show alarming results.
The same situation is observed in Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina.
Glyphosate, the herbicide used in cultivating transgenic soy is applied throughout the whole region," Argentine pharmacist Carlos Vicente told Sputnik.
The use of glyphosate herbicides, one of the most popular in the world, is absolutely legal in South America. "Year after year its toxicity level is being proved," said Vicente, who is also a coordinator of GRAIN, an international organization that supports biodiversity-based food systems.
"In 2009, Andres Carrasco, the Argentine researcher and the president of CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council), found out that a large concentration of this substance has a toxic effect on amphibian embryos and, consequently, on human embryos.
Carrasco claimed that it might provoke various kinds of abnormalities and abortions. This is exactly what is happening now in Monte Maíz and other cities where the substance is sprayed," Vicente said.

"This is just further confirmation of the reason why cancer is so widespread in Monte Maís, with nearly three times more cases than among half of Argentina's population," the specialist added.
Twenty two hangars with equipment for applying and storing pesticides are located within Monte Maíz. "This is the worst. Herbicide spray vehicles drive through the streets of cities and harm residents polluting air with this toxic element. The first step is to remove them from the cities. In addition, it is necessary to reconsider the toxicity of the substance and start to restrict its use," said Vicente.

On June 30, the EU had to update the authorization of the use of glyphosate. However, this resulted in mass protests.
"We collected more than 200 thousand signatures not to make it happen. Due to the fact that we could not reach an agreement, the EU decided to extend the use of glyphosate for the next 18 months. But at the same time it ordered to start a detailed study on the toxicity of this substance and its carcinogenicity. This is the only case when we manage to move forward on this topic," the activist concluded.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply Linlu, Linda...seems the rest of the thread has devolved off topic. Sad but it's our reality. I'd prefer to connect via your website if that's ok. I'm assuming so since you shared it with me. To answer your question first though, yes, my Spanish is adequate in most daily situations AND I'm watching UY stuff to try and acclimate to their Spanish!! ") Ciao for now.

Wow, I'm kind of disappointed in you two, Ernesto and Linlu.

You completely chose to ignore my questions, assumed that I'm not a believer in Chemtrails and gave me a whole list of assignments about what I should read and believe in order to understand the NWO purpose.

The dialog is broken the minute you avoid or refuse to answer a few simple questions.
I'm open minded and like to read and research and try to find the truth but that doesn't guarantee that at the end I'm gonna believe what you believe.

I live in a world where everything has an explanation, whether we see it or not.
If you say that's a chemtrail I immediately search for the most logical explanation and might end up believing that, that was not a chemtrail but a harmless contrail.
The next time I might agree that what we see looks more like a chemtrail.
One thing is for sure, I'm not going to give you a free pass, I have to be convinced that what you're saying is the truth.

This is for both of you:
Could you quote me when I said that I don't believe in chemtrails?

Ernesto, I found a few Illogical statements on your writing and asked for clarification, that was all. Were the questions too difficult for you?
Let me understand, you come and claim you know the truth but the minute you're challenged you fold and counter by insulting what you think I believe in. Very defensive. It almost looks like you're unable to stand the challenge.

Can you enlighten me and answer the questions on my last post?

Well, this thread certainly is thought-provoking. :-

The vapor trails I see in the sky today from passing aircraft don't look or behave any different from the ones I remember looking up at when I was 8 years old. For sure they're more numerous, but then when I was eight, there were a lot fewer commercial flights. In those days, only hotshot big-bucks executives could afford to fly. (Yep, I'm that old. :)

We humans seem to be hard-wired to be suspicious of things we don't control directly. Aspiring politicians, and their friends with media connections (these days including internet websites), use that as a way to discredit their opponents who are in power. That's why we keep voting the bums out, only to find that the new pols replacing them are still just -- bums.

That said, we ARE changing the weather in this weary old world -- but I'm pretty sure it's not through "chemtrails."

There's not much I can do to reverse climate change all on my own. However, one thing I CAN do (although it's a small one) is reducing my own "carbon footprint." That's where Uruguay comes in. It's one of a very few places in the world where the electricity is nearly 100% from renewable sources. That's what first caught our attention about Uruguay, and it's what keeps it on our short list.

Repetition of an excellent site regarding chemtrails, Gro-engineering & weather warfare, etc.

Contains videos, whistleblower testimony, inquiries fro the U.S. congress & more.

Weather warfare was started in the 1960s by the CIA. Documents have been declassified on these efforts.

There is an effort by the Globalists to take control of the weather which impacts food & water supplies. As famously stated by Globalist, Henry Kissinger, "If you control the food, you control the population". Read UN agenda 2030 to understand the goals to control the Earth's resources.

Codex Alimentarius explained - http://farmwars.info/?p=3869

The UN is behind the efforts to control global food, water & other resources.

The term "conspiracy theorists" was created by people that wanted to shut down discussion on topics that they did not want discussed. When people throw this out as an attempted insult, it just reflects that you are unable to participate in an intelligent debate on a topic so instead attempt to stop all discussion with a negative characterization of the person. This in actuality reflects quite poorly on the person trying to label someone else. If you can not add any intelligent conversation to the topic, you should remain on the sidelines (yes, this is directed to the RVGRINGO).

Ed - if you want some more links, there are many out there (at least while the Internet is not under UN control. After October 1, all bets are off. Expect many topics to be "scrubbed" from the Internet.)

Regardless, I agree with LinLu about doing your own research. Do not take anyone's word for it. Engage your brain & do your homework & develop your own opinion on the topic but for those who don't do their research & spout off insults against people that have, it just highlights that you are not prepared for the dialogue.

A good definition of contrails, not to be confused with chemtrails.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfdCnPZGwt0

Chemtrails and how a chemtrail airplane looks like
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5VP64V6L2s

What I believe:
Chemtrails exist and are the spraying of chemicals as part of experiments done by secret US agencies, if you want to call them "GLOBALISTS", fine with me.
Similar to Haarp, are primarily intended to control the weather.

In my opinion these experiments are done only in the US or on neutral grounds (over the ocean) and are not as common as the Conspiracy theorists would like you to believe.
Why?
Because chemtrails are easily spotted and would need approval from local governments to take place.
LinLu said that the "Globalists" don't ask for permission, they are above the governments.
That's fine but any government in the world would blow into pieces any foreign unidentified airplane invading their airspace.

Wanderlustspirit maybe you want to answer what Ernesto was unable to explain..
How can they possibly spray on the capital of a country without approval?
If he (Ernesto) could see the chemtrails from Uruguay, I would imagine the whole 12 millions who live in Bs As could also see them..
And how about the government?
You think they would just ignore to have their main city sprayed all over with unknown chemicals?
Does that make any sense to you?
I don't need additional links, just a simple explanation using your own head would be enough for me.

It was once just a pure lifestyle, Then it was a debate between the medical philosophies of pleamorphism and monomorphism, then it was a hippy life style, then it was alternative medicine, then it was integrative medicine and now it is functional medicine. If it weren't for the fact that modern western medicine was producing the sickest cultures in the world, this functional medicine movement would not be developing at such a inspiring rate.and in so addressing all the big diseases.
About the chem trails, no matter our beliefs in such ( i do recognize them all over Hawaii and articles have been written about the affect on the foliage and health of the people) it is prudent to take care of our bodies in such a way that they will be strong enough to handle what ever comes their way. Worrying and arguing does not help. I just found myself, more accurtely, my ego participating again in a health related pissing contest and had to apologize even though my information was well researched. It wasn't the info, it was the unnecessary arguing that I apologized for. Not useful. Making a point is enough, then let it go. Not easy for me but I am trying more and more to be considerate of others beliefs. Some of us get better with age. haha. We all do our best and can support others with our own ability to check ourselves rather than checking others. No, not easy to change old habits but doable.
I have been in Asia for a couple of years and now want to move to Latin America and was looking at Ecuador, Uruguay. I always wanted to move to Brazil because i like playing and dancing to the music but does not look Expat friendly at this time..

Yes, I can see that it wandered. I just liked where it was headed but maybe the thread, when it goes off track could be moved to a new topic. It started out as a shopping question about certain health foods then moved to health and some might say, conspiracy but not really. I like all information that is politely delivered. I am new here.

welcome thomas, uruguay has lots of playing - futbol ( with a capital F ) , bicycle racing, 5 and 10 k foot races, and lots of gym basketball, weightlifting, yoga, and zumba. Tango and Cumbia are dance party favorites. and thats out in the sticks, i know Montevideo has more variety of activities....

and , i agree, it isnt necessarily off track to talk about chemtrails and maca powder in the same thread - since they are both health issues and people who move here often are super interested in their health. But, for people , new to the blog, like yourself, its probably easier to find answers , in past threads, if bloggers try to start a new thread?

My son is living in Brazil (married to a Brazilian woman) and he suggested that I not move there when I was considering this move to South America. It's not that Brazil is particularly unfriendly to expats, he just feels it is too unstable. Our whole family lived there years ago -- it's where the kids grew up. His feeling is that it's not a healthy place to decide to relocate to at this time.

In "quite a few" years here, I have seen chemtrails a half dozen or so times. The most recent I was actually able to ID as a Lufthansa flight EZE-FRA using online resources.

I have a friend here who subscribes to the Agrentina-spraying model as the cause of haziness recently here (outside Montevideo), but I have problems with that. I've witnessed the heavy-duty spraying in the US. But the haziness here lately doesn't seem to fit with expected weather.

Well, just a thought: approach this from the standpoint of evidence, versus belief?

And I don't mean dredging up "debunking" and "skeptic" web sites. Granted, the skies in Uruguay appear to be generally unaffected by the obvious (to those who choose evidence over belief) atmospheric geoengineering so prevalent in the northern hemisphere since the late 1990s.

It was suggested to me to go to a different part of this site for some lifestyle answered as this is about coconut and grain. haha.
I actually like all the posts even some that seemed needlessly aggressive. Con-trails, chem-trails, weather patterns, cancer, GMO.
Are there coconuts, young and mature for water and milk available there. I love Asia for the availability of one of the earths most important foods., I actually came here to teach bodytherpies as I have a lifetime of experience I want to share but ended up just working on folks and in two years have worked in medical clinics and healing retreats and taught some private but not to the degree I wanted. I realized that it is very difficult to learn the language here, Thailand and now Cambodia. It dawned upon me that I could learn Spanish fairly easily because I was brought up mostly in California and my childhood has lots of memories of my father talking with his parents in Italian. I wish they would have taught us. I find myself up on the room tree times a week playing brazilian music on flute and dancing both are very enjoyable to me. Always was a dancer. As a therapist, an aging therapist, I realized that the brain and the body needs to be challenged in order to stay supple. and that both dance and flute playing do the job. Chatting here is also good especially if one, like so many here study what they are interested in.
OK, where am I going with this..... From the blogs I have read, I am thinking that UY is expensive and now starting to think it is also not as conscious in the areas of health and agriculture. I know it would be naive to think anywhere in the world is going to meet my hopes and expectations but it seems,(again, from research online) that Ecuador might be cheaper and a source of more organic food.
Any comments. I was looking at Vilcabamba then decided to look at lower elevations as the higher elevations might be challenging. This is what got me looking at UY.
And thanks for the comments on Brazil, they fit exactly with what I found. I am a small town guy, a bit of a recluse but good at a friendly party.
Sorry if this post should not have been posted here. Oh yeah, I am single and not a bar hopper. Been to one in two years here. I do like to party a bit, like on the roof, haha.
Anyone have a comment here. Greatly appreciated. I will copy and paste somewhere else on this site. thanks.

If you're addressing me: until I learn of a way of producing chemtrails without spraying, I assume planes are needed. The Uruguay air force is very small, and commercial flights are infrequent.

Again, evidence: where are the planes, or what is the alternate mechanism?

Thomas22 Hi I've lived in Cuenca Ecuador for almost seven years. Some things are cheaper here but some are cheaper in UY from what I've read. Vilcabamba is not good for gringos anymore since too many moved in and messed with the market. Most lower elevations have bugs and some that carry diseases! Any other questions let me know. We're considering UY for the presence of seasons, more pleasant looking neighborhoods, less population density, and a change of pace after so much time in EC.

thanks for the info. Where in UY are you considering moving. I am not much of a large city type. I tend to buy local and live simple. All my specialty items, I have shipped. I have had no problem in Asia so far. Only am asked to pay a fee sometimes when I go to the post office and once my shipment was held at customs and I had to go pay them but all and all if I do this every six months, it leaves me the simple lifestyle I like. I also like to walk and so far have not needed to won a vehicle.
I like mountains and beaches and my only real social need is to play some music , teach therapy and dance a bit. I stay healthy but do like to party a bit. Where would you move considering these simple needs. Oh yes, I do need internet as I have a large family and own property in Hawaii.

Hi Thomas22,

From your posts I picture you as a guy who would like the community somewhere between Punta Negra and Solis but I'll get back to that in a minute, first let me offer you some generalities about Uruguay that you will hopefully find informative. Uruguay has a very low density population and if you wander almost anywhere beyond Montevideo your neighbors are mostly crickets. In terms of food, Uruguay offers an excellent climate for growing and an equally excellent climate for bugs so to successfully harvest you have to learn how to keep the bugs at bay and foster healthy growth of your plants to help in the battle. What Uruguay has in abundance is water, partly due to the fact that it can rain a lot - not that it necessarily does, but once it starts raining you never know when it may stop (conversely, once the sun comes out you never know when it will rain again). The winters are cold, not so much that they are really that cold, but the houses are generally pathetically equipped for comfort in the winter - it's a cultural thing, Uruguay can be expensive, it can also be cheap. At today's exchange rates USD/peso it is really not too expensive in my opinion and in my case. But aside from cost, you have to consider benefit just as when you decide which neighborhood to live in the US - the inner city is cheaper than the suburbs but where would you rather raise a family?. I'm not a follower of chem trails or gen modified or whatever (neither am I a detractor, simply disinterested), but Uruguay seems a little better than many places but not squeaky clean. However, the culture and policies are definitely progressive which you may or may not like, but I am very happy with - things like legal pot, legal gay marriage, legal prostitution etc. etc. I personally feel show a mature approach because you will never outlaw these behaviors so better to embrace them and make a safer society. The people of Uruguay are definitely among the nicest in my experience - helpful, willing to please, non-aggressive, non-judgemental. Opportunity is sorely lacking here so it is best a destination for those who want to retire or farm or who can be supported by an income stream from their home country.

Back to where you might wish to look for a community, the stretch from Punta Negra to Solis is really solidifying into a nice expat community. In Uruguay, you don't create little US neighborhoods, you live among the people and get together with expats for get-togethers on weekends or for whatever. Weed out the negative and associate with the positive and Uruguay can be a great place to live.

Hi focus
Very good balanced feedback here. Thanks from a peripheral beneficiary! So, am I to understand that while they are using GMO and pesticides that, like many places, it is possible to find organic produce (truly organic) and/or farm it yourself and not risk being contaminated from an overabundance of users? (hopefully their progressive nature will soon translate to banning that like so many other countries, too!) Also, do you have any experience of working with chiropractors, reflexologists and/or other alternative health care providers? Spanish or English speakers, no importa. Thanks.

You pose an interesting question. There are many alternative care people practicing here. There are a few in Punta del Este, but due to the irregular population of this region here, most of them either work in MVD or at least have a day or two in MVD to be able to sustain themselves. There are a couple of chiropractors in MVD. I have been unable to find one in Punta del Este and I needed one desperately recently.
There is a guy by the name of Axel Gruel who practices low level laser therapy which really has helped me after only one treatment, so we'll continue a bit. luzdelavida.info

There is a lovely small health center called El Claro that has an Osteopath,
kinesiologist, acupuncturist, and sometimes massage therapist.
ElClaro.com, and there is an CFI/MERSRT therapist http://arcturusfoundation.weebly.com who is in Pueblo Eden and offers treatments. There are many yoga studios and yoga teachers....some decent.....some not so much! ha ha ha

There is plenty of organic food available. Prices are a bit lower than they were in Northern Michigan, but higher than non-organic. There are farmers markets in Punta del Este, Pirapolis, and MVD, with a particluarly good farm north of Atlantida.

There is an organic Facebook page where we can connect with others and where we can find all sorts of information, https://www.facebook.com/groups/UruGanic/

Not bad for a 3rd world country! It's so fine here. What a blessing to be part of this country. Hope that helps.

> Not bad for a 3rd world country!

I've seen Uruguay referred to here in other posts as "third world." Maybe I'm not well informed, but for me that doesn't seem like an entirely appropriate label.

Well, it might be, in the original sense of "third world." Back when the term was first coined, the US and its allies (NATO) were the first world, their cold war opponents (USSR, China, and so on) were the second world, and the non-aligned nations (everyone else) were the third.

But in recent years "third world" has come to mean poverty-stricken, backward nations, mostly with poor human rights records, often with deeply corrupt, authoritarian governments. Unless I'm missing something, that doesn't seem to apply to Uruguay. If it did, I wouldn't have any interest at all in living there, and you probably wouldn't either.

If you call Uruguay a third world nation, you'd also have to say that about Romania, Thailand, Egypt, and China. All of these countries have a lower GDP than Uruguay. But maybe I'm off base here, and you WOULD call those other nations "third world."

In any case, "third world" doesn't seem to be a very well defined term. And it does have some pretty negative connotations, which I'm not so sure Uruguay deserves. Or does it?

Hi Liana,

There is a high degree of interest in organic food here but, like everywhere, organic is labor-intensive so it will never be mass-produced. I know a guy who subsists off the produce on his lot, both by selling it and consuming it, and his lot is less than 7,000 sq. ft. Every inch has a use. Organic farming does not need much space. 1/2 a hectare (1.7 acres) is plenty unless you really know what you are doing (and can hire a lot of people). Was at a house a couple of days ago - pretty cool... rainwater catchment system, drained, terraced (it was on a hill) planting beds, sub-surface irrigation, composting bins, very serious and knowledgeable growers. But regarding markets to buy veggies, they are small and here and there - for sure there will be one nearby wherever you end up - around here Playa Verde, Cantegril, Pueblo Eden. Organic is small-scale, unless it is livestock, which is why almost every country has pesticide and fertilizer use for the large tracts of land. There's pushback but I don't see it changing in my lifetime, best just to try and keep it at arm's length.

Last year was my 1st attempt at a large garden. It bombed. I had to deal with leaf cutter ants, sheep, piglets, chickens and cows clever enough to break down fences. This year I fixed the problems (still wary of leaf cutter ants) and the garden is doing splendidly. The insects are different here so it is a constant learning experience. There is ant poison they use a lot here but if you follow them to their nest, expose the nursery and pour boiling water on them, you don't have to worry about contamination with chemicals.

i have read that calcium based powders bought in garden nurseries will stop the ants as will diatamaceous earth. Also.. somewhere i have homeopathy for gardening...i shall look it up and post... I appreciate your post... and actually would love to know about the different bugs. :) thank you, Olga

The ant powder is a fungus that kills all the plant material the ants take to the nest and they die of starvation.
Too bad really but they can strip plants or a tree overnight.
