Hi! My name is Aspen. Myou husband and I are planning on moving to Uruguay late next year and I would like to find someone we can chat with and who would be a friend to us. We'do like to get into cattle farming there and would like some information regards. My Spanish is there but poor so if they spoke English it would really help!

I did the typical gringo 'all in' when I got here 6 years ago. Regrets yes, but managed through the mistake. If I can I will move permanently to Medellin Colombia. If you have never been, go there first. Weather warm all year, no need for heat or AC, only on rare occasion. People are everywhere , 1st class grocery stores./ Very low cost of living. Winter, June - August can be miserable. If I buy an apartment / house in Colombia I can get residency.. Learn from my mistake. I will be here in MVD four more weeks then 6 months in Medellin where I hope to retire or semi retire

Thanks for the info. We're really looking into more rural land. Do you know what it's like farther away from the capital? Im not interested in living in a big city. We live in the US. In georgia right now. So we're pretty used to hot and muggy. Would those be your biggest complaints?

Aspensophia,
Far from the capital is good and the weather is not an issue. But I advise you to come to the capital as a visitor and spend as much time you can, rent a car and travel de country. don't commit to anything before you do this.

Have a look on YouTube - you will find lots of videos on many places here to give you an idea of the smaller towns and the countryside.

We like the rural areas, especially around Rivera and Minas. You'll need a car.

It won't be that hot and muggy. I've never seen it break 100. It can be muggy, but it's not like the US south west. Winter is cold, windy, and wet. But there's never a hard freeze.
