It seems like not being robbed is unusual in Carrasco.

Unfortunately it is not just there. La Floresta had over 50 robberies within a few weeks and a neighbour told me 5 houses on the same street were robbed recently in Las Toscas. Her son came home to find his door slightly ajar last Saturday and he went to his neighbour to see if he had heard anything and when he went back to his house, the door was wide open. He thinks the robber was actually in his house at the time. Luckily he arrived before they had taken anything.
Unfortunately the police do not seem too concerned about theft, when someone tried to steal our car, they left a flashlight in our car. We told them to take it to look for fingerprints but they told us to keep it as a gift!
Our alarm company recently switched us to a wireless system as they said thieves are cutting phone lines to stop monitored systems working. A German friend said robbers are also working in pairs - setting off an alarm on one street and then robbing another house while the alarm company check out the first one.
It is definitely getting more difficult if you want to leave a house unattended for a few weeks or longer.

Morell,
Could you split a security patrol with your neighbors at peak robbery hours?

Most people rely on alarm systems and large dogs in the yard often three or four of them. Most of the robbers are young and usually target homes that are not occupied at the time. There are many to choose from along the coast as probably half the homes or more are just summer homes. As you move to the other side of the IB, the homes are more modest and more likely to be lived in year round.

With poor policing and justice, this happens as a result of frustration.
