Can anyone make a brand recommendation for a sturdy washing machine? The Westinghouse that came with house I bought has finally given it up after 5 years of constant use! Your input is most appreciated.

Avoid Fridigaire Washing Machines. I bought new one from Motocyclio and it never worked even once. Returned it to Motociclio and they replaced it with one that would not spin. Then replaced it with someone else's returned unit and it did not wash clothes. So I suggest you avoid Frididaire and Motocyclio. They will not refund the money and indicate if it worked one time it was a good machine. I had a GE prior to that and it lasted 3 years. Cannot find one now. So I bought a James and it is a very good machine. Not had it long enough to say it works fine for years, but had good recommendations from other expats. So my money is on James and I really warn people about store policies at Motociclio. They get your money and they won't let go without a lawyer. I am still out my money and no washing machine from them. Not even a store credit. If you shop there, take a lawyer with you.

I like my PHILCO that i bought here in URuguay. i have used it one to 2 times a day for a year, and it is still going strong, but that's only one year. ( i usually buy 2nd hand , but since i have to do so much laundry, i decided to go new ) It sort of bothered me , at the begining, that so much of the machine is PLASTIC, but maybe thats the way they make them these days, and i guess it doesnt rust that way. I cant speak to any of the specs, i bought it cuz that was the biggest one that would fit in the one space i could cram it into my garaje ( people before had their machine outside, which i didnt want to do ) and it was what the store that gives a discount on Saturdays ( Daniel Hogar ) - they seem to only sell Philco, as far as their washing machine selection, but everything else i have bought from them ( water heaters, small appliances ) has been great, so i am assuming there is good reason why they carry that brand.
