Happy Canadian Thanksgiving

This video from the Globe and Mail newspaper describes the difference between the Canadian and American Thanksgivings.

It is 6C here now, the leaves have changed colour (mostly yellow and brown) and the predicted low tonight is -3C with....snow flurries.

This will likely be our last Canadian Thanksgiving in Canada. I should be thinking about putting the snow tires on the cars rather than the warm temperatures in UY today.

Anyway, best of the day to you. We'll have some turkey and pumpkin pie while thinking about our new home in UY.

I have heard some folk find turkeys here occasionally but most complain that they are small and do not taste like those from N. America.
You probably won't find things like boxes of stuffing, cans of cranberry sauce or even pumpkins here either but those who want to bother find substitutes.

This is a long weekend though here celebrating the battle of Sarandi.

Thanx Morell:

I have noticed that turkeys are hard to come by in UY. No big loss since the chicken that we have had in UY is so much better than the stuff we get here in Canada now.

I have never used stuffing from a box nor cans of cranberry sauce. I even make the bread from which the stuffing is made. I'm looking forward to learning how to make some of the delicious meals that we have had in UY, or a facsimile thereof.

Battle of Sarandi, eh? Is there a traditional meal coupled to it?

Now is Battle of Sarandi! in my old days was Dia de la Raza (Race Day) or Descubrimiento de America (Discovery of America), and at school we celebrated that Colon (Columbus) came to America to save us from the Indians, yes, I'm ironic, and I'm very glad with the changes, Battle of Sarandi was a battle for the independence.
In Uy with no have traditional meals associated with patriotic holidays, but my grandmother always cooked empanadas de carne and pastelles de dulce de membrillo on holidays because the family was at home.
Happy Thanksgiving!
