We spent 6 mos, from Nov - April, in Antigua, Guatemala and absolutely love Guatemala!!! BUT...we travel with a service dog and this year the large fireworks were almost daily and non stop. Nothing we or the vets could do helped as he could feel the air pressure change. Anyone know anywhere, with similar weather, where the fireworks are not a daily occurrence? Any help will be most appreciated! Kitaniga

last year, in Minas, Uruguay ( a small city in the interior ) we had lots of firecrackers and fireworks lit off on xmas eve. , and new years eve. ( from midnight until people ran out, which was about an hour later ) with only a few tiny practice occurances in the days leading up to the holidays. I sense there would be more, but money is tight?

We also hear fireworks for birthday parties throughout the year. They only last five minutes or so.
Mostly it is Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

Not sure if the weather here is similar to Guatemala. It can be over 30 C and humid in summer but by April it can be quite cool and wet.

Is your dog bothered by thunder as well? We get quite a bit of that too.

When Uy beat Italy in the world cup (2014), we emerged from a cafe to calle 18 De Julio in Montevideo, which erupted into riotous celebration including many fireworks explosions, and I do not mean mere firecrackers. I doubt our dogs would have dealt well with this. We expect this to be a non-issue "en los rurales" though.
