In recognition of the Day of the Immigrant, this Sunday December 4, inaugurates the first Culture Exchange of Edén 2016 which will take place in the town square. There will be a display of traditional objects, information and enjoyment of typical foods of the participating countries: Argentina, Columbia, Spain, France, Holland, USA and Uruguay.
The event takes place between 3pm and 7pm at the town of Pueblo Edén located at kilometer 30 of ruta 12 and offers the public the opportunity to learn about different cultural pastimes and participate in traditional activities.
Holland, for example, will demonstrate the Koekhappen, which is a game where gingerbread is suspended by a string and the participants must try to eat the delicacy without the use of hands. The US will host three-legged races, bobbing for apples, bag races, among others and Argentina and Uruguay will demonstrate 'El Juego de la Taba' which is a game of chance popular in the rural regions of the respective countries.
This event will be accompanied by music performed by the San Fernando Quartet, sponsored by the Cultural Office of the Department of Maldonado.
At the same time, all the landmarks will be in operation: the House of Chocolate, Artisanal Market, the local school will have an orange juice stand and the local restaurants such as La Posta de Vaimaca, Lo de Cris and Lo de Blanco will all be open.
The money raised from this festival will be to the benefit of San Isidro Labrador Chapel located next to the square and named for the patron saint of the town.
The event is supported by the Office of Tourism and Culture of the Department of Maldonado as well as the Municipality of San Carlos.
