Hi all,

My husband and I will be immigrating to Uruguay in the next 12 to 18 months and buying a place in Montevideo.

I have seen the electricity is expensive? Just how expensive is it? We normally keep are house at 65 during winter and 85 during the summer. We live in NY where the average monthly cost is between U$250 to U$450.

Then for residence, we will have monthly rental income of approx 15oo after expenses (home is paid off) and dividend income averaging between 25K to 35K yearly (pay out quarterly). How will this be viewed by the immigration department?

we plan on expanding on our web building and management services. Currently this has been a side business.

We have already been to South American and Uruguay several times over the past 10 years.

My spouse fluent in Spanish both verbal/written and I am currently learning Spanish.
Thanks,

Doyle

It depends a lot on how you will heat and cool your place. We use wood in our house so our electricity costs are less than $50 US a month. That said, we do not have a clothes dryer, we cook with gas and our electric water heater is only on a few hours a day.
We also are on a double meter which means we pay a higher rate from 6.00 pm to midnight, and a low rate the rest of the day.
I have heard of some who keep their houses warm in winter and cool in summer running up a $600 US bill a month but that is the extreme. Most homes here are small, the weather is mild and most of the time you probably won't need heat or cooling.

Your income sounds more than adequate for immigration to me ( but I am not the one you have to satisfy! ) -
It isn't a fixed amount, they want you to show sufficient to maintain your lifestyle.
