Hello all,
I am the husband of a returning Uruguayan. We purchased an apartment in Pocitas last summer (2016). She returned to Uruguay permanently in October and I came to Uruguay in mid-December. Since then we have been busy completing our move and dealing with the last of the paperwork for her car. Until now we have not worked seriously on my immigration status. From all we have been told and have read, to start the residency we have to make an appointment to present documentation. The problem is whenever we call or go online there are no appointments available. We are stuck in this loop where she is told they are making appointments for 2018 but none are available and to call back in a week. A week later she gets the same response. Is there something we are missing? I’m in no hurry to get permanent status, but I would like to get some kind temporary status so that I will not have to leave the country every 90 days. At the very least I would like to be able to get an appointment to start the residency process. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

I thought family members of Uruguayans applied through the Interior Ministry not Immigration.
Maybe I am not correct.
Is this any help?

I think these kind of problems are why many use someone who does this for a living. They seem to be able to get appointments more easily than others.

Sorry, it posted it twice for some reason and then went to the wrong page.
Look on page 2 for Cedula de Identidad ( Primera Vez)

Next time you are there go to the Immigration office in Ciudad Vieja. I started the residency process and later regretted it, you can get a 90 day extension before your original 90 runs out, In Colombia the 180 you are allowed per year resets after Dec 31 and if that is the case in Uruguay you only need to leave the country twice a year.. Take the ferry to Buenos Aires and return the next day
