Hello Fellow Expats,

My husband and I are planning a extended stay in Uruguay this summer(US), with the option to stay permanently. We are planning to stay for 2-3 months in Montevideo. Our Daughter is 10 and in the Fifth Grade. She is English Dominant but is comfortable speaking small amounts of Spanish. We are currently debating different options for her studies abroad. In order to aid fellow expats in this position I will include what information I have gathered.

We are hoping that some of you can aid us in our search as well.
1. What is the over all yearly tuition cost of the American primary school? In Uruguay peso or USD?
1a. The yearly tuition of the German, British, and one or More Private Primary Schools?
2. Have any of you or international friends considered Online schooling? From your native country or another?
2a. If you choose another country why? what was the cost. In rough amounts?
3. Tutors and Second langue help? Yes We know about Rosetta Stone and Duolingo...Is there any other local options you recommend for children?

Okay Quid Pro Quo:

Online:
Connections Academy:

Public Free options online with flied trips- online live webinar classes- and a support team for students and adults. They also Feature a Private add on or Full time options. The Start up cost is 700-800 for 5th and above. Add a few hundred per grade as they progress (warning Not exact please call). Sarah would end up w/ a 5k-6k USD plus 225 if they have to ship school supplies over seas. Payments are 520 per month.

I can only speak for myself and the millions of exchange students around the world who after a 6 or 12 months period are fluent in the language spoken in the country chosen for their exchange year.
Your 10 year old daughter will be speaking like a Uruguayan in no time, no need for special education, just let her socialize with fellows students and she'll be fine.
I would send her to any school, public or private and stay away from online schools and home schooling as a primary school.
Use online classes and home schooling as a complimentary source of education.
There is no way to substitute the experience gained by socializing while learning a new language and culture.

Thank you Sir, your a class act. After speaking with our daughter and doing some additional digging we agree with you. She wants to make new friends and so do we! We're open to the new experience and looking forward to take part in the public education system!
