I am not an expert, but have heard that the public schooling is exclusively in Spanish. They are now teaching English as part of their curriculum, but everything else is in Spanish. I have read that home schooling here is also required to be in Spanish, and believe this is an effort to preserve their language and culture.

I am pretty sure the answer would be no!

The rural schools I have seen are usually quite small. Where I live, the public school children attend either 8.00 to 12.00 or 13.00 to 17.00. They may teach English but according to a 14 year old I know, the level of English is low and most of her classmates are not very interested in learning. She also has private English lessons.

Homeschooling is not legal here from what I have heard if you want residency. Someone I know wanted to do this but Immigration said it is only permitted if the child has a significant disability making regular school attendance difficult and even then must be in Spanish.

There is a bilingual school in Minas. Not sure if it is public or private. Public schools do include English classes but it may only be for "English" class while private schools will have 1/2 the curriculum in Spanish & 1/2 in English.
