hey all, ive been living in chile for a while with my girlfriend and been thinking coming back to urugauy for good with her, buy a nice plot of land...

she works a "matrona"(midwife), so i think she can have some good work opportunities in uyu...

my question is if we need to pay the income tax in order to live in uyu forever, do they calculate it per person or for us both as a couple ?
what is the amount of this tax and the bureaucracy that might be needed?

thanks for the helpers

We were surprised that there is no commonlaw status in UY. If you are not married, you are not married. We have been 'not married' for 39 years now, but that doesn't matter. So, her status will not likely affect yours and vice-versa; but, you should check with a lawyer because free advice is only a start, not a conclusion.

This is what I found re taxes.

may not be up to date but .....

I have seen posts about medical staff wanting to work in UY. If she trained elsewhere she will need to have her credentials certified here and possibly need to take more studies or exams. But if she trained in Chile, maybe not.

There is a recognized legal status in Uruguay for "Concubinos". Basically looks like common law marriage after 5 years of living together.

You can read more about it here: http://www.impo.com.uy/concubinato/

You will have to pay income tax in Uruguay for every income generated inside the country. This means that if you work in Uruguay but cashes for your work abroad, yoy will have to pay income tax as yopur work was generated in the country, but you will be exonarated for that work to pay VAT as it is for abroad.
