Selling a House

This is post is for any US expat who has recently sold a house here in UY. My question are: how did you receive the funds? Was it a "Letra de Cambio"? Did your buyers use a bank? Were the funds directly deposited into your bank account either here or in the states? If someone could talk me through the steps of a sale, that would be helpful. Thanks!

from FIRST HAND experience and from numerous second hand stories: If the numbers are high BE CAREFUL --- they won't hesitate to screw you royally and then even lough into your face ...

In most cases the transaction is signed at the public notary's office, although there are some cases in which they are signed directly in the bank. If it is signed in the bank the funds are transferred from one account to the other in that moment. If the transaction is signed at the public notary's office, the payment is done with a letra de cambio which is a bank check, this means that the bank guarantees having the funds for the payment of this check.
