Moving to Caracas

Hello:
I am considering a move to Caracas (Las Mercedes neighoborhood) to live and work as a school teacher. I have lived in countries (Israel and Vietnam) in which I was always 'on guard' due to issues of threats to personal safety, etc. That said, I also thoroughly enjoyed my time in those places. The US Embassy travel warnings and most other reviews I find of Caracas, however, are quite negative with regard to danger, threats to personal safety, pollution, scenery, etc.
If I do decide to move to Caracas, I will probably be liiving in a bit of a bubble, between school and the Las Mercedes neighborhood. I'm okay with that so long as I can feel safe somewhere (especially where I sleep at night). Any thoughts you have of the city and, most specifically, the Las Mercedes neighborhood, would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,
I saw your post you put in February 2011. I was wondering how easy it was for you to find work teaching english in Venezuela and any recommendations on places to go to find that work. I don't have a tefl although I have teaching experience and know spanish so hopefully that will help. Thinking of going June 2012. Many thanks
