Dear friends,
I'll be moving to Puerto La Cruz and I would like to know about your experience living there. I wonder how expensive is housing, how big is the city, services, malls etc. All information will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your feedback

WHY PLC???
It's a dirty town. It's not all that safe. I lived there in the 90's at several of the marinas located there. I have friends there and in Barcelona, a nearby town. I live on the island of Margarita, a ferry ride away from PLC and have been here almost 6 years. I am a single, retired woman. I love the people and the climate. BUT the crime grows and PLC & Barcelona are places I no longer visit. There have been many political disturbances in both towns.
Check out EL UNIVERSAL online they have an English version of the newspaper. Are you fluent in Spanish? they speak VERY fast and sloppily, mispronouncing letters or eliminating them!!
There are supermarkets and there are strip malls. I don't know if they have opened any indoor malls like on Margarita. Here the prices are cheaper because we are a duty-free port and the folks from PLC come over here to shop!!!
Snail mail is almost non-existant, there are courier services. Power outages are common and garbage pick up can be iffy! The streets are filthy and there are holes in the sidewalks and the streets. There are about 370,000 people. in PLC about the same as the whole island of Margarita. Do some google searches. http://www.popularcities.com/cityguides/12055.htm
GOOD LUCK!!!

just browsing and saw your take on PLC.. I moved there in '74 and left in '81 I am very dismayed to read how terrible the area seems to have become. Apart from petty crime, we found the area quite safe and enjoyable.

Did you ever make the move? If you don't read DOLARTODAY or REPORTE CONFIDENCIAL you're missing out on a lot of what's really happening here n Vzla. Also EL UNIVERSAL in English. THIS is not the time to be returning to the country! Wait until the basics have returned to the shelves (which are empty of all of what people NEED!)

Moving to Venezuela at this point in life is a complicated decision, I grew up in Puerto la Cruz and as bad as the country is Lecherias still a beautiful area and you have access to all the beaches malls etc.
I actually own an apartment there that I rent to foreigners when they come and they are always happy afterwards. Of course you will have to be careful as you would anywhere in Venezuela.
See our rental unit bellow. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/3021535?preview
