Hi.
I have been living in Vietnam for 3 years and have known a local friend. She is very kind and helps me a lot to learn Vietnamese. She recommended me a course book titled Vietnamese For Foreigners which i found very helpful and interesting. About the pronunciation, you don't have to worry because there is an electronic talking pen (It's called easy-Talk or something). It will read any sentence you point at ...it is amazing. I really like it.
Hope these information can be helpful to you.

ha ha how can a person learn Vietnamese even over a long period of time.. Anyway, for me it's a tough language, made that way by having pretty much no words or sounds in common with English. However, some do master it but guessing there is no easy route.

It is very hard to learn Vietnamese in a short time if you have not already learnt a tonal language.

I couldn't open the language website referred to. you could also try everydayviet.com The presenter speaks with a clear, southern accent.

When you arrive in Vietnam, there will many local women who will be happy to help you with your Vietnamese. Don't worry, just take it slowly.
