Return to VN after 3 years.

I have been lived in VN for 8 years but that was 3 years ago.

Planning to come back there. What has changed in 3 years?
Visa situation, more difficult to get and extend visa?

Cost of living?

Cost of hotel room in Pham Ngu Lao and in Dalat?

Like to hear from expats that have been there more than 3 years.

Thanks

Jimbo.

On ex.pat.blog website, they recently ran a survey on living costs, you might be interested in looking at that. Visa's have changed dramatically. From my experience, things have increased a lot in the last 3 years, although they say the inflation rate is low?? And it's getting hotter each year.

I doubt that it is getting hotter each year. Inflation was 20% when I left VN. Every year, 1st Jsn and again Tet prices would jump up a lot. I lived in VN for eight years and miss it some but not a lot.
So what does a hotel room go for in Pham NueLao, long term?

Yes you're probably right my thermometer is made in China, so it probably adds an extra 1-2 degrees every year.

Hi Jim,

I heard that you need to go out of VN then come back in situation you want to extend your expired visa or easier way, just get your passport to travel agency nearest, they always have a way.

In Pham Ngu Lao area, it will cost you around US$40/ night at 3 stars hotel, 2 stars hotel will be around US$25-US$30/ night, or Kaiteki HongKong hotel at 22 Bui Vien St, Dist 01, is also not a bad idea where you can get a sleep for US$6/ night.

P/s: If you plaaning to live in long-term in Vietnam, Lakeview villas is an idea for you to take a look, it is located in district 09, just drive more 20 minutes, and you will get saving nearly US$400/ month.

When you return, you will find that everything has changed a lot, especially the costs: cost of hetel, cost of food, cost of services etc.
That's a good choice of you to live in Dalat. It's a nice place with pure air, beautiful sights and friendly people.
