South Vietnam doesn't exist anymore. It ceased to exist when the communist forces of the Vietnamese Peoples Army and the National Liberation Front defeated America and the south Vietnamese puppet Government in the second Indochina war.

I think you need to get your facts straight. The US could not have been defeated by the North Vietnamese because we weren't even here but for some support and Diplomatic types.

You got the communist part right, but should have included , the North VN puppets of the USSR and China,

That's Americans favourite argument. Sorry to tell you but yes you were here. Haven't you seen the videos of all the Huey's being dumped at sea on 30/4? Hardly the actions of a victorious army! Yes you were defeated. If you weren't defeated South Vietnam would still exist and the sooner you accept that fact the better. Haven't you seen the red flag with the hammer and sickle on it everywhere? Does that not tell you that you lost? Wake up!

Since when is this a political forum? How about cutting off the rhetoric.! This is supposed to be a site for sharing useful information about living in Vietnam with the Vietnamese people and not about who won a war that ended over 40 years ago. Vietnam today welcomes all nationalities, no matter what side of the bed you get out on. So let's get back to helping people adjust to life in the wonderful country all of us have chosen to reside in and leave our personal political opinions where they belong, in our hearts and minds and not on this site. For those of you who need too know, I'm an American and I was here for three years during the conflict and left after the peace keepers entered Saigon in March of 1973. I just returned to the states from 10 weeks in a Mekong Delta jungle village. What a wonderful time we had, visiting with my wife's family and all the villagers. Over 40 people traveled to HCMC TSN Airport at midnight from 80 miles away, just to see us off. Where else in the world do you get that kind of respect for a visiting American. We have decided to build a house in the village and "Snow Bird"(spend our winters)in Vietnam. I'd move to the Delta permanently but my wife is a workaholic and won't quit her job as a chef. She's 67 and wants to keep working till she can't move. I stopped last year at 72. Now I back my grand nephew in the goat raising business. I really enjoy my time in Vietnam and have been accepted unconditionally by the people we deal with and who live in the surrounding countryside and by the government officials we deal with. I get stared at but mostly by children and that's alright by me.

That sure is a really touching story. Did you happen to visit any of the thousands of orphanages housing the MILLIONS of children still suffering from agent orange? Didn't think so. Did you ask their families about how they feel about americans? Didn't think so. Did you massacre any children and peasants when you were here fighting for your governments imperialist agenda? Did you rape any children or young girls? You are a war criminal and the american military are the scum of the earth. FACT.
