I really depends if you are a train buff or not. If not, don't bother with long-haul journeys, such as Danang-Hanoi. Vietnam Railways run very slooooow trains.

'Express' trains aren't really express when compared to overseas schedules.

Hi Arthow,

For Air flying cost it's around 2,000,000 VND = 100 USD 2 ways from Saigon to Da Nang or to Ha Noi. You will spent 1-2 flying hours.

With Train the cost is around 500,000 VND = 25 USD from Saigon to Da Nang it will take you around 20 hours and 2 days from Saigon to Ha Noi. It will be nightmare since there is not express train and it's crowded. And be careful, the train is quite dirty.

If you need to know anything just contact me. Welcome

Dear Mr. Arthow,

Welcome to Vietnam!

Mt name's Hang.

My opinion, you should take the flight instead of train because train is inconvenient and very slowly. Vietnam airline is similar price to train if you book soon.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need more information.

Recently the main line (HCMC-Danang-Hanoi) or Reunification Express has had major cleanliness problems. Just read Tripadvisor and weep at the reports of vermin on these trains. I personally would only consider taking the Hanoi-Lao Cai route or very very short runs on the main line.
