Thinking of moving to Ecuador or Nicaragua.

I am planning on moving to Cuenca Ecuador or Nicaragua.

I have not visited either nations, but I hear that they are both very nice to retirees and your $$ goes far.

I do not have a set date yet, but I will start visiting both in a near future to consider things like: quality of life, security, health care, real estate cost, and the culture/people.

Please advise. Thanks.

Hello Ziadie;

Yes I am moving out of the US in May, my youngest son is doing his best to have me move to the Philippines he just loves the islands, but the airline fare is over a thousand dollars. I have talked to Darrell Bushnell, I think he is a good man and will tell you the good, the bad and the ugly about Nicaragua, I have read is web-site and talked to him by telephone. Also there are other web-sites to look at, I think you are already looking at them. No I do not speak the language but I am enrolled in a full immersion language school in Estilie starting the 17th of May. I have spoken to Norma the professor I am going to live with and have told her I am old, very old and it will take her long time to teach me Spanish. No I haven't been to Central America although I have been to South America and Mexico to the north. Adventurism, oh yes, I love to be adventurism, I have traveled alone thru Romanian, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia al the way to Georgia and had a ball, western Europe is fun but its a lot like the US, eastern Europe is totally different and I have made some very good and dear friends there from Ambassidors to dirt poor villagers. Realestate prices are low therre but being married to a house here in the states a condo or apartment sounds awfull good to me, 10 years ago i would not have belived me saying i dont want another house, but now that sounds awful good. If I don't like the place all I have to do is pack my things and move, hope I am alive long enough to get tired of the place to want to move!! Oh yes I am ready to get out of the cold, snow and crummy weather!! Have a great week and I hope to talk to you latter.

My humble advice is to relocate where you already have friends, the "devil" you know is always better than the one you don't.
When I relocated out of the US in the 1980s I had 2 relatives, plus some long term resident, short term and 6 monther..snowbirds.. ex pat and native friends, a ready made social network. If going to a country where you have no contacts nor friends, especially in our cold cruel sometimes "developing world" with the all rough edges, find an honest ex pat mentor/friend who ain't got his or her nose in your personal life/business..avoid the 24/7 hang around the gringo bar crowd..gossip galore in Ex Patlandia..keep a low profile, stick with the winners. PS Any friends of Bills out there?
Low profilers the best and only survivors...more than 60% of newbies repatriate within a year..worldwide.
