Nicaragua - Loving It!

Nicaragua is perhaps the most unknown country in the Americas and certainly the most misunderstood. My wife and I moved here four years ago though we had visited for several years before then.

We created a simple website at www.nicasagas.com to put out basic information on Nicaragua and to publish our diaries starting at the date we decided to make Nicaragua our home. I decided to create a more comprehensive website since there was so much misinformation and to give the viewpoint of a normal couple living outside of the USA.

Though the new website is almost completed, I hope it will continue to evolve to answer people's questions. Please feel free to make suggestions for topics you want to see. In addition, I hope to begin posting a lot of topics to expat blogs and forums such as this site.

Nicaragua is not for everyone but it has a lot to offer to those that embrace it.

My wife, Audrey and I are looking to visit Nicaragua in order to assess as to whether or not we would like to make a long term change in lifestyle. We would like to live near or in a nice ocean community. Where would you recommend our first visit to Nicaragua be? Thanks for your insights and knowledge.

I would like to know more about your blog and would like to see more people chating in on this one, there is to little information on Nicaragua, or I haven't found it. I have a friend who is Nicaraguan wiith a business in Nica and Florida, a very nice person who would like for me to spend some time in Nicaragua but I am not sure and my wife is really not sure. Hope we can start hearing from more people who live there.

Hi

I see you both responded to old email of mine. I have since created a more comprehensive website at www.nicaragua-guide.com that has tons of the good, the bad and the ugly on Nicaragua and our diaries.

Feel free to correspond directly to me at bushamy13@yahoo.com for questions or post them here. I have also gone to the dark side and am helping a friend in the real estate business. You can see typical pricing and availability at www.casagranadaproperties.com.

Regards

Darrell

Darrell,

I just went through your web site, I have spent time on it before, very well done, thank you. I spend a lot of time on several forums, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Brazil, Nicaragua and others. I have something to say about the subject of crime since it seems to come up in every forum and was addressed in your blog. I have been in every state in the USA and lived in many, I have lived in Charlotte, NC, Columbia, SC and many other states. Something that bothers me very much is when someone is describing crime in any of the countries I read about, they use the crime in the USA as an example. I am 72 years old, have lived in more places than anyone I know, I am out late at night, I drink more than I should, I walk a lot at night, my wife walks a lot at night alone. We have never been robbed, mugged, broken into, not in Charlotte, Columbia, Houston, Jacksonville, West Palm, Miami, Denver, Boston, Seattle, Savanna, Atlanta, this is a small list of the places we have lived, I have never locked a car, we recently were going on a trip and thought we should lock the house, we could not find a key for the house we have lived in for 15 years, we had to change a lock so we could have a key. We have never lived in a gated community or protected area, we have traveled in many countries, some not so comfortable like in the middle east, so we know a little about the world, oh, and we have never lived in any place with bars on windows, we don't lock the doors so I don't know what good they would do any way. I have never responded to this subject before and I do appreciate your effort and time to inform us about Nicaragua but there is no comparison to the crime in the third world countries and the lack of it in the USA. I have a friend who is Nicaraguan, his family is in both Nica and the USA, friends in Costa Rica, Panama Brazil and Ecuador, THERE IS NO COMPARISION PERIOD and I wish people would stop comparing them.
Darrell, I am not venting on you, I have been reading about this subject on many forums for years and it finally got me. I have informed some friends in Florida about your web site, they will enjoy it, they were recently in Nica with the Nicaraguan friends at there ranch and plantation, we will be there soon.

Thanks again for your web site.
