My family is planning to move to Granada in August. My husband and I both enjoy running here in the US. Is there a running community in Granada? I would like to find someone to run with. Also I am interested in participating in the Ultramaraton Fuego y Agua on Ometepe in December. This is a 25K trail run and I will need some trail running experience in Granada, are there running trails in Granada? I am not a fast runner and don't have much trail running experience but I am looking forward to it. Thanks Lindy

I'm not aware of a formal expat running community in Granada though there are quite a few Nica joggers in the area. I'd suggest contacting one of the area gyms to make contacts i.e. start with Pure Natural http://purenica.com/yoga-retreats/index.html . There are many natural areas in Granada that should be good for practice though outside my area of expertise. There are trails at Valle Escondido just outside of Granada that may fit your needs. More Nica info at www.nicaragua-guide.com.

Thank you, Are there women Nica joggers? I am hoping to make connections when we get there. My husband has contacted the owner of Pure Natural about the local athletic community. I know there is a Hash House Harriers (international drinking club with a running problem) in Managua but that seems like a bit far to go for a run. Do women run alone in Granada? Is is safe? I can't seem to find any info about Valle Escondido online. I guess I will just be surprised when I get there! Thanks for your help. Lindy

There are female runners but not within my social group. It is safe to run here. Valle Escondido is a new development just starting up with a couple homes but they do have trails for running, walking, biking and horseback riding. www.vegranada.com

that's probably why I couldn't find it. The race I am looking at doing is on Isla de Ometepe which is serious trail race. I am looking for trails more like hiking trails to run on. Although regular running trails are always nice.
