retiring to Central America

I have done a lot of traveling to Central America but never visited Nicaragua.
The research I have done shows more cons than pros but am interested in getting more unbiased info.
What is the infrastructure like outside of the cities.
I have heard that crime is really bad and that poverty is all over the place (thus the crime). Is this accurate?
Any other info would also be very much appreciated.
thanks, John

I'm not sure where you are researching Nicaragua. This is a simple country but crime here is much less than other Central American countries and less than in many areas of the states or Europe. We are the second poorest country in the Americas which is why the cost of living is much lower.

You need to visit to make your own determinations. Take a look at my website at www.nicaragua-guide.com or www.gotonicaragua.com or get the Moon Books on Nicaragua and Living Abroad in Nicaragua. This isn't the Bahamas at a penny on a dollar but we have made it our home.
