Hi There, We (myself and Nica wife) are seriously considering moving back to the country we so hastily had to leave in 1979. We heard so many positive stories, on this forum too!, that our mind is almost made up. Only one questions remains, and a serious one; what is the cost of living in, say, Managua compared to New York or Amsterdam (where I am from)? If anyone can help me here, I’ll be very grateful! Peter (aka Flaco)

I am not a resident. I visited Managua for two weeks this summer and my wife and I are planning to retire there. From what I saw, cars, gas, and electricity seem rather high, especially if you plan to to use air conditioning. Housing runs from very reasonable to very extravagant. You can get a nice place under $200000 US. Everything seems to depend on the lifestyle you choose. This is compared to Washington, DC. Compared to New York? I cant say.

Thanks, Darrell. I'll scoot over to your website and inform myself. One more question if I may, any suggestion on a rental car company (apart from the big internationals)?
It's great to see that a non-Nica goes to such great lenghts to 'sell' the counrty to others!

We have the usual rental car companies. I'm not aware of any big differences.
