According to U.S. law, the U.S. government is not allowed to provide bilateral aid to any country whose government has confiscated properties belonging to U.S. citizens. A waiver has remained for 18 years and from Power's statements, the waiver may not be renewed in July. Those Expats living in Nica, what is the impact if this occurs?

Actually, most aid had been cut already so not a big effect. The threats that the USA would use its influence to force World Bank and IMF to stop loans to Nicaragua is of more concern.

We hope this is just political talk of a new ambassador showing her resolve in keeping little old Nicaragua in its place. The confiscations they speak of are not well understood. Many, if not most, incidents are from several decades ago when a lot of Nicaraguans with the means, went to United States. Do not assume it was as simple as the government taking land from the rightful owners. Both sides have some good arguments and it has become a political football. Note that the majority of cases have been resolved.

Those lands caught up in decades long disputes between nicaraguans expatriated to USA with citizenship, somehow can end up on the market and sold to unsuspecting gringos or locals..How likely it is to happen? i dont know, but its good to note that most of the disputed cases were resolved and if i remember correct, the government nicaragua shows only around 400 land cases still in dispute amid a long going title placement program over nicaraguan lands.....i can only wonder if the "settled cases" were of the government making final decision -even if it left the land in redistribution away from the original expatriated nicaraguan owner.....The war crimes/human rights abuse accusations still standing over some of these nicaraguan expats to USA, is the nica governments main claim for holding out on resolving most remaing disputed entitlements........I read all this in an article that had also all the info stated by bushamy above...Maybe we read same article?
