Transportation from Liberia/Canton Nica

Hi,

I am excited for an upcoming trip to SJDS April 12, 2013, arriving around 2:30 pm at the Liberia/Canton Costa Rica air port.

Would anyone have any suggestions on a good/reliable company or other means of transportation from Liberia/Canton air port to SJDS?

I am also looking for a place to stay in SJDS and would like to know if anyone would recommend a place that is a few blocks walking distance to beach, restaurants etc., not too crazy loud. A one bedroom is all I need and while I have looked at some hotels, the reviews have not been great or differ very much. I am looking at hostels but uncertain if I would want to be in one for my three week visit. Any first hand recommendations would be great for both transportation and a place to stay. Thank you a ton!

On my last trip to Sushi Itto, I ran into a gentleman that owns El Pelon Hotel in SJDS. He seemed a very nice american gentleman. Google his place and see what it´s like

I don't know that area very well, but I can tell you about
public transportation. www.thebusschedule.com has good information.

Once you get into Liberia, take a taxi to the bus terminal. There are frequent buses to the border - there are two towns known as Penas Blancas, make sure you get to the frontier (border). Once you cross over into Nicaragua, find the buses going to Rivas (all do)
or points north. They will let you off on the highway, take a taxi to the terminal (it is in the market, guard your belongings) and find the bus to San Juan del Sur. It is a very small terminal and not difficult.

Try to make friends and share a taxi part of the way if you can. There is usually someone looking. If you get out of the airport late, I would spend the night somewhere. Buy Costa Rica money at the airport, get small bills. Buy some Nicaragua money around immigration. Bring plenty of small bills of US dollars, make sure they are perfect.

You didnt mention price-range. We stayed at Villas de Palermo in Feb for 3 weeks. Ask them for better pricing for extended stay. Our 2br2ba villa was 330/week. Shuttle service to town until 6pm. Its about a 20-30 min walk (i know you mentioned a couple blocks) but we did it so as not to feel guilty for drinking the Toñas!
