Hey y'all. I am moving to Matagalpa Soon. I arrive after 8:00pm and will be carrying multiple heavy suitcases. I am going to spend the night close to the airport and will need transportation to Matagalpa the next morning. I can't use the chicken bus because I will be carrying most everything I own. Is there a company that has "shared rides" to Matagalpa from the Managua airport?

Ask about a shuttle at your hotel. There are some, but most go to Granada and SJDS. Check on www.thebusschedule.com for buses. Not all buses are chicken buses, lots are very nice. I have ridden on Gomez and their buses are very comfortable and modern. Also, ask a taxi, they like long runs. Last time I checked it was about $80 but that was some years ago. Someone at your hotel will know a taxi driver. There is a facebook page called expats in Matagalpa, Estelli and Jinotega.. There was a transportation company that had something on that site. You might be able to connect better on Facebook. Tierra Tours has shuttles all over, but I am not sure about your area, I think they have a web site.

Express buses should leave from the Mayoreo station on the east side of town. cost too little to talk about, comfort varies, normally they will be very helpful with luggage--2 airline size maletas plus a carry is no problem.
cabs are the easy way, 70-80 bucks is the rate to Esteli so matagalpa should be the same of less. Look for a cab that looks sound and a cabbie who is not drinking or stressed out. Cabs will run at night from the airport, but by the time you get there it will be late, easier to travel in daylight
